Soft wheels - what's the latest?

Post by neckarsulm » Sat Nov 28, 2009 8:32 pm

Had mine serviced today and it was noted that 3 wheels were buckled.
These 3 are soft wheels while the one straight one is a hard wheel.

Anyone know how Audi are handling the soft wheels issue these days?

There can't be many still with them, the one previous owner of my car had no idea about the free swap.

Thanks

Just dig your heels in. Audi Belfast denied any such goodwill gesture so I contacted Audi UK who spoke with Belfast and guess what they changed them no problems!

Thanks for the advice chaps.
My wheels have been refurbished too but the distortion is on the inner rim so can't see how they can get out of it on that basis - I'll take it in dirty which will make it harder to spot though they have been done to OE colour and quality.
I am 99.9% sure these 3 wheels are the ones that the car was supplied on from new so it's not like it's had loads of them already.
I will report back with my findings, first call will be Audi CS tomorrow morning.

Called Audi CS who said speak to your retailer so called Birmingham Audi.
They are calling me back tomorrow to confirm goodwill is still available.
The warranty manager said he seemed to recall something about this but it had been 3 years since the last free RS4 wheel swap which just happened to have been when my friend had his swapped there

bit of a curious question, i know some of us have had the wheels changed from soft TO Hard under the warranty/goodwill gesture for the deformation.

what if A hard wheel deforms/buckles/not straight or true etc etc.....does that still count to be replaced by audi?
Avus B5 RS4, Miltek down pipes/No cats/Miltek Cat-back, Wagner uprated SMIC's, short shifter, B7 brakes, Phaeton brake ducts, H&R ARB's, H&R Coilovers, AWE DTS, MRC custom Remap + water meth injection = BIG GRIN on my face with poo in my passengers pants

NO
One you are on hard wheels you are on your own! A few years ago Audi withdrew the 'lifetime' goodwill on soft wheels and changed it to a one off swap to hard wheels, wheels which still buckle all too easily from my experience!

Mine must be one of the last on soft wheels judging by how long winded this is now getting;
Got a voice mail today to say that the warranty chap has found information on the goodwill programme but it was from 2 years ago so he has emailed Audi CS to see what the latest is - that was at 2pm, still not heard any more.

My car was a one driver from new before me but it was registered to his company which he sold soon after buying the car and I suspect all the info on bent wheels and the invite to the customer day at Millbrook (see downloads section of this site) didn't get to him.

More tomorrow...
