Warped discs and skimming / caliper slams against bracket

Post by prosty » Sun Nov 15, 2009 10:32 am

Hi!

I've got a RS4 B5 with warped discs, the steeringwheel twists and turns really hard when I brake from speeds at 30-35 mph and up, the discs are about 30.5 mm width, and I've read that 30mm is the minimum for stock B5 brakes. I bought a pair of used "skimmed" discs, which are worse than the ones I had.. The pedal goes up and down and the caliper seems to move alot and slams to the caliper bracket.. but no twisting of the steering wheel.. Weird.

Can I skim my old brake discs or do I have to buy new ones?

Prosty off of the S2 Forum..?

Try a dial gauge on the face of the discs and see if you can see what is going on. Also make sure the carriers move freely on the sliders I had one that was only sticking slightly and the car pulled heavily to the right.

Also check the pistons for free travel while your in there..

Hope it helps..

Ys that's me. Thanks for the help, I'll try to get ahold of one of those and check it :)
The pistons moved pretty easy without issues

Replaced the back rotors too now and the pedal feel is alot better but still not perfect. The Rs4 b5 brakes are truly worthless compared to the b7 model :).
