whenever i'm on a long-ish run i've found that my gauge needle always sits just under the 90c mark.....
even around town it will sit just under and not on the 90c mark.....
is this normal?

Don't see why not. The thermostatic sandwich plate which allows oil go into the oil cooler opens at 80 degrees.

Gauge stays just above 60 - 70... Rarerly 80.
Is THAT normal?

Hi, I'm assuming you are talking of coolant temp (the gauge beside fuel indicator) not oil temp.... unless of course you are hammering a bit more than maybe usual
Coolant temp indicator should stay at flat 90, except e.g. on a cold winter day. If yours stays just under the 90, sorry no help from me...

Oil temp indicator stays at around 60-70 in easy driving. I've never had it, to my recollection, above 100.....only at autobahn it's been near.

My oil guage sits at anywhere between 70ish and 90 normal driving (incl. London traffic). I have only seen it go higher than that when my thermostat was toasted, then it went over 100 in traffic and water temp also rising above 100. Now its been changed, water temp is bang on 90 whatever happens.
To go back to the OP's questions I would say that sounds normal.

Yep, that's right --- traffic and e.g. summer makes all the difference -- you're looking at ~80ish even if driving like a grandma.....
It's been a while since I've seen warm weather

since i've had my rs i have never seen the oil temp above 65 does this mean there is a problem with a sensor or just that everything is working well.

Likely no problems. I agree with posts above. However if you're saying it never goes over 65, even in hard driving or in traffic jams during hot summer day --- maybe worth a quick check. During winter my oil temp needle hardly moves even on motorway. Summer is slightly different. It's just physics.

I've not had the car long so not sure how it is during the summer, but i am glad to hear that things seem to be normal, i'll keep an eye on things as the weather heats up.

If it's at 65 deg, then you're driving it too slowly
Get it on the track, then you'll see it go up to 110 deg, maybe more depending on the outside temp, how hard you push it and how old your oil is.

Im still getting used to driving it, but it wont be long till it gets some stick.
110, you must have been kicking its pan in, good work
