What do we think about imports?

Post by MOR8A » Fri Oct 23, 2009 9:58 pm

Gentlemen.

It is with sadness that I have to tell you that it looks like the yellow RS4 is an import. I'm sure there will be mixed reaction to this, but I cant find any positives in my mind.

Your thoughts please.

Imported from where ? Bearing in mind RHD is not exactly common throughout the globe...

Jimbo, are you saying all RS4's are imports from Germany because thats where they were built? Or are you saying that there were no cars sold in the uk by uk dealers as uk spec cars? I am no expert but I'm pretty sure that the cars sold from uk dealers were 'uk cars' built in Germany.

Rickoshea, I dont know where from as I only had the car HPI'd today and it came up on there.

And there will be all sorts of problems with an import. Insurance for a start!

More investigation needed.

If the cars a good one i would have it over an average uk car anyday,Im not aware of any difference in spec, and it will of been built on the same line as uk cars,Back then personal imports were worthwhile and somebody could well of sourced one via belgium etc and saved a few £k but now i think condition should be your no1 priority

lengster, I agree about the condition of the car being paramount and the savings to be had in Europe at time of purchase.

I personally could not care less where the car has come from! I used to have an Impreza WRX STI Jap import ( far superior to the Spec UK) But my God when you try to get rid EVERYBODY 'cares' all the stupid sucking through teeth noises come out, I was ready to kill!

I've been involved in the motor trade most of my life and it always at some point becomes an 'issue' at some point, if its not with the insurance company the its when you come to sell it. My insurance company would not give me a hire car because my car was an import!

Why is the car on "longlife"? That would put me off immediately.

This pretty much sounds like you have made your mind up! If your always going to feel uncomfortable with it you need to put this one behind you and move on.

I wish I had made my mind up. If only I could then I would not be so concerned about doing the right thing.

I like the car a lot to look at and im sure i will like the way it drives. Its tuff for me to find cars that flick my switch. I never rush in.

Careful evaluation is the key.

I'm with lengster, as long as it's full UK spec (crucial) there should be no problems.

If the car's with Audi, then simply ask them if it is UK Spec? They'll be able to check, from when it was new. They should be able to give you the full car's history.

As mentioned, it sounds to me like you're looking for reasons not to buy one? I'd steer clear and buy something you're more comfortable with? How about a B6 S4...?

The original plan was to buy a B6 S4 but im not sure if thats gonna be hardcore enough. I really would love to buy this RS4, but as mentioned I am nervous of the miles etc, and I dont want to buy big trouble and go all the way to Scotland for the pleasure!

Plus its gonna be easier to get it past the Mrs if I sell the Benz first! lol.

Depends what you mean by hardcore?
It's is very different to the B6 S4. But it is an RS, not an S...

have you been in one yet? Get yourself a drive in one.
Don't be put off by highish miles. If you want one with low miles you're gonna be paying £20k. BUT it will still be an 8 or 9 yr old car, whatever the miles say.

I had an B6 S4 Avant, and this is in a different league.
The performance standard is great. The performance tuned is feckin' awesome. Tuned you'll be quicker than 911's, some fezzas, any BMW/AMG, Aston's, etc etc. There's only c400 in the UK so rare as rocking horse sh1t.
