I know gutting precats gives nice results but I guess getting rid of all cats would be even better.
But the question is - what about possible "check engine" problems?
I have ASJ engine and some people told me this one should be fine as opposed to AZR which is prepared for higher EURO standards...
Any experience? Did you gut it and left the cases or replaced it with straight pipes?
And what about sound? Too aggressive?
Thanks!
Getting rid of all cats - any problems?
RE: Getting rid of all cats - any problems?
Hi
I've had mine totally gutted. Sounds deeper and does give better performance figures than just the pre-cats.
You will fail an MoT though on emissions. You need to modify it to assist, or know a friendly testing station...
Was told the engine light will appear, but if a remap is done at the same time, the warning light goes out.
Wouldn't say itg sounds too aggressive, but can definitely hear a difference to say a Milltek with 100 cells.

I've recently had a set of Milltek no cat downpipes fitted, along with an MRC filter and airbox cut out. The difference is substantial if the map is tweaked correctly!
I have a SuperSprint cat back (quieter than Milltek) but is still very loud IMHO although Doug said it was quiet
Sounds amazing when giving it full beans
No engine light on here, although Doug had to alter through VAGCOM

you will need to get the engine check light deleted via the ecu through a tuner if you are going to run no cats

it needs to be written out of the ecu, not sure how you do it but if you get stuck you can send the ecu to mrc and they can do it.
