OEM Rear pads rattling when on uneven surface

Post by rhunter203 » Tue Oct 13, 2009 4:37 pm

Has anyone had the above the problem?? My local mechanic has made sure everything is as it should be and it is apart from the bloomin rattle when hitting small holes in the road etc.

The pad was taken out and copper slip was applied but still the noise is there, and its driving me mental!!!

Any ideas how I can cure this???
Cheers

Sure it's the pads and not the backing plate behind the disc...?

Have you checked for a broken spring??
I've had this a few times (not on the RS) and it has been found that the broken "pigtail" part of the spring is trapped within the wider part of the spring and when going over rough surfaced it rattles like a 8@stard.
Hope you get it rectified soon as there is nothing much worse than a rattle (unless you're still in a pram!!)
Just can't get the smile off my face......

Are you sure its not the caliper guides/pins, bolts?

If it's the pad, you should be able to slide the caliper up (as you would change pads), and then does the pad move up/down by hand.

Had a Merc in today with non OEM pads (Mintex), and these would click/slap when you braked. I was able to do this with the caliper off, and could be heard clearly.

Had an S8 a while ago with worn out caliper slides/mounting points, and this had the same symptoms as you describe.

Both rear calipers are brand new, therefore shouldn't everything be a okay?? Or are the items you're describing separate?? Sorry if I'm being completely stupid but I'm crap when it comes to this kinda thing!! I just pay the money and don't ask!!!
