Brutal gear changes...

OK, while I'm here with another issue...

My car doesn't drive very nice anymore, such that on occasions (as much as I try and make it smooth etc.) my gear changes, particularly between 1st and 2nd, can be brutal, specifically, disengaging the clutch.
It feels like clutch-snatch, but feels more as if when I've depressed the clutch pedal, the clutch (or gearbox) wasn't ready to disengage from the engine and therefore brutally and fiecely disengages...

Any similar feelings, or any thoughts? Could this be diff related?? It's hard to pinpoint where abouts around the car this is actually happening, i.e. in the engine bay or behind me, but it's just getting horrible now...

Thoughts appreciated (aside from my car becoming a dog, and being handed in as part of the scrappage scheme...)

Sounds like the same problem as Jimbo had. I think it was the 1st \2nd syncho which was worn meaning notchy and awkward 1st to 2nd shifts.

I've got something similar and it has been suggested that the rubber in the dual mass flywheel might be goosed.
