Another suspension topic......

When going over a bumpy road, say one with cobbles, the offside front wheel seems to rattle around like its almost held on by loose wheel bolts - which it isn't.
I've had the car jacked up and have given the wheel a good tug around and all seems to be ok, but I'm suspecting knackered bushes and/or a faulty shock maybe. Any idea's what else it could be?
Anyway, as the car is almost 10 years old and still on original suspension, I'm thinking of getting it overhauled, but don't really know what to do. Whether to get it replaced OEM as per the other thread, or get all the bushes replaced with those polybushes one's, maybe get some new ARB's, and get a new kit fitted ie: PSS9, KW, etc.
Don't do track days in it, just fast road use and most of the roads near me are rubbish, so it needs to be able to soak up big holes, speed bumps, etc.
Any of you guys got any recommendations?
Someone said PSS9 were useless and KW's were the way to go, but I would've thought it the other way around.

KWs are great, but you it will take you MONTHS to reach the desired setup.
PSS9 are easier to adjust, so for street use they're probably the best choice.
However, i don't understand if you FEEL the wheel rattle through the steering or if you just HEAR a rattling sound.
If 2nd, 99% you've lost your pads retaining spring.
cheers

You can feel it and hear it. It's not nice at all.
The PSS9's aren't too hard a ride are they, and can I get a good ride height with them? I don't want the car any lower than maybe 10mm or so, and want it to feel tight but without breaking my back if I go over a cats eye. And what I definitely don't want is rattles, crashes and bangs coming from the suspension as this will drive me crazy.
Thanks for the input guys

RRP for the PSS9 is £1,786.69 inc VAT.
Motorsportworld.co.uk are doing them for just under £1,700 inc VAT but I'm sure you can get it cheaper elsewhere.
Just wondered if anyone has had any experience with Ohlins? As I understand they do a s**t hot kit with remote reservoirs etc. Look the biz.... but obviously the proof is in the pudding as they say.....

Might be a broken suspension spring, check at the base for a broken\split piece.
I've just replaced my 95K mile std suspension and top bushes\mounts, with almost new (20K mile old) standard suspension, and it has transformed the driveability of the car, removing the rattles, creaks, as well as the mild tramlining. Now the car doesnt crash over potholes or speedbumps, and it feels nice and tight again, Glad I stuck with OEM, as I don't track my car, so don't want to upgrade to stiffer PSS9, KW or similar.

Topbear, did you replace any bushes as well?
I must admit, I really want the car to just drive like new again. That's all I'm after. I'm the second owner, have owned it for donkeys years, its still only done about 70k, and I love her............... certainly don't want to ruin her.

Just the top mounts on the front suspension only. All the lower suspension bushes were checked both at the recent MOT and also by Unit 20 at the time of swapping the suspension, and were fine. The top mounts were shot, as they had split which means you hear a clunking going over bumps.

No, got them done at Unit20 along with some other things.
If you do them yourselves, don't try removing the pinch bolt on the hub to get the strut out, remove the bolts from the bottom and top of the strut, and leave the hub intact, much easier.

Hi Gumball3000 have you hchnged your suspension then?
did you consider H&R springs? im deciding to go the coilover route or just springs, it does sit pretty low on OEM springs.
would give owners an idea if people post up some pics - everyone loves pictures.....
anyone got any pics of the H&R springs on stock wheels? (would give an idea of how the car sits)
also anyone else got a pic of standard wheels on the coilovers your run (please state what kit you are running)
