Why are things looking up?

Spoke to Nick last week and he's got the black one with 49k on it still.

Maybe, looking at other prices on Pheads is a little bit disheartening, I've seen the Misano one start at 18k ish and drop to 13.5k!!!! Why do people let these go for so little.

I feel the same contigo, but maybe some are not as good as the pictures show. But with all the cheap ones about,i believe this brings all the prices down.

i think you've hit the nail on the head there jules, the cheaper cars are not what they seem there are some very dodgy ones around. however, going back to my initial post the higher priced cars are thin on the ground NJ has basically sold all his B5 stock apart from that black one which he has had for yonks.........

but anyway i don't want this turning into another 'these cars should be worth more debate' was just making a passing comment that we can take solace in the fact that there are serious buyers around willing to shell out decent money for good cars.........i know that if i find a mint sub 50k car i will seriously consider buying it.

Having owned one now for a massively long 2 months(!) In would consider buying another at a higher price, if it's in mint condition.

The car's are absolutely amazing, and very difficult to explain to someone who isn't in the 'know'. They will literally not understand as it is a 2000/2001 car. They won't look beyond that, which is fine by me.

I'm absolutely convinced these cars will become a collector's car and will command a premium. But... the car will need to be in mint condition with (much) lower than average mileage. I don't think that the car being totally standard will affect things dramatically, as most cars look pretty standard with the exception of wheels which are an easy fix anyway, if it were that important.

I don't think you can explicitly say a low cost car is going to be neglected. I saw this when Paul (eyeball) bought his for a billy bragain price and it's not got much miles than my 64k car now. I would not even dream of selling mine for that price and I hope like alot of second hard cars (B7) the prices actually goes up.

I think alot of the owners panic at the running costs and think "Fook, I need to get out of this into an oil burner" and sell it for a panic price.

So for some stats

18 B5's for sale in total on Pistonheads.

There are 6 B5's available from Trade at the moment and only one has under 50k mileage. The Average mileage is about 80k and the average price is roughly £16.5K

The remaining Private sale cars number 12 in total. None of them have under 50K miles. The Average mileage is 80k too and the average price is roughly £15k.

Now I'm an owner I'll be keeping an eye on prices, but TBH I'm happy with what I paid (appreciate I got it cheap) and have since spent on it, so not overly concerned.
If I'd have paid a few k more than I did, I'd still be happy and not overly concerned...

Hey Stumpy- I took a bath on my first RS- paid 24k from Fontains (56k miles)and when I realised what a fantastic piece of engineering it was, sold it for 19.5k and bought another for 26k (42k miles) from Kenny Dunn in Edinburgh- with all the stuff (minus RNS) on it that I would have bought originally if I'd only realised.... they just get under your skin!
No regrets, it already had the MTM chip and full Milltek and I've spent about 10k on it since bringing it up to spec- last was RNS-E that Doug kindly sorted for me at MRC while the rear diff seals, front CV boots, air-con recharge and half-yearly oil change were being sorted- talk about spoiling your car...... can't imagine doing it with anything else, and dont plan on selling it anytime soon- what the hell would I replace it with?......

Regards
Steve

That's the main thing, what can you seriously change it for re performance?
I could sell mine probably for £15k-ish, but what could I buy? A kit car for sure, but something that ticks all the boxes?

An RS6 for sure, but cost more to maintain (generally, before someone starts having a pop!), but RS4's look harder and meaner than RS6's (don't start arguing !), are rarer, and FASTER...

There I said it, oh no...

^^agree. not many cars out there that tick all the boxes...and with the oppurtunity to run near 500- 550 hp with space and being manual it would be FUN
