Sorry...Another brake upgrade question

Post by stumpyrs4 » Sun Aug 30, 2009 10:42 pm

As it says...

Apologies for possibly boring the regulars!

Looking for the options, other than a B7 RS4 swap.

Have seen a few threads on using Porsche systems. Can I just check on them, as they seem more widely (and cheaper) as an upgrade over the OEM front twin piston calipers...

996 Turbo/GT3 4-pot calipers - straight swap?
Cayenne Turbo 6-pot calipers - straight swap?

Anyone know the discs for 996's compare as an upgrade too? Or will the above calipers work well enough on the OEM discs?

Final question:
Will RS4 B5 braided hoses from HEL fit if I buy the Porker brakes? Or will I need to get custom ones made up?

Thanks guys...

They will fit but you'll need custom brackets making.

These are what I have fitted lug mounted Cayenne's bolt straight on. Carrier req'd for GT3's for use with bigger than 355mm disc.
Did I mention them when you called round?

Not sure Dave. Thought you had the B7 RS4 setup, but can't remember TBH.

Have seen some Cayenne Turbo (6 pot) and GT3 (4 pot) calipers for sale at 'reasonable' prices. Assuming they're going to be 'better' than the OEM 2-pot RS4 calipers, will be a better upgrade (in terms of value for money) for me.

Would use the above with either replacement RS4 discs, or perhaps B7 RS4 discs or even the Pheaton ones? Assuming I can use the other discs with the Porker calipers?

Whilst in and around the calipers, would change to braided lines too. Would the HEL B5 RS4 braided kit fit, or would I need custom ones made up, which is what I was going for with MRC on my last visit, but ran out of time...?

The brakes feel a bit worn and tired although I haven't checked on how much of the pads are left, so think they need changing too.

Once I've sorted the above, I think I'm going to opt for the Hotchkis ARB setup too, along with replacement Powerflex bushes. Should tighten things up a bit. But will probably have to leave the suspension alone until either next year, or a deal comes along which would be silly to turn down, i.e. someone getting rid of their setup...

Need to get the camshafts checked at some point too, for peace of mind...
