Yep, I had that regularly, just before my cams needed replacing.

It could be a multitude of things causing this though. Duff coil pack(s), amplifiers, injectors, MAF.........
You should be seeing more than 1 cylinder misfire (in your case cyclinder 4) for a 'Random\Multiple' DTC code though

I saw that on my RS - plugs needed tightening (seems to be quite a common thing!)

If you measure and log blocks 15 and 16, you can 'watch' which cylinders are misfiring, and at what revs they misfire, to help you narrow down the focus a bit.

Thanks. The main problem I have is the car has only misfired once!

I take that to mean it's only logged misfires once as DTC's, and you've cleared them and they never came back?
Perhaps poor quality fuel is to blame then?

The misfire happened after I gave the car full beans from cold – I know this is a no no but I pulled out to late. The car stuttered
then the engine management light came on, I immediately stopped the car and turned off the engine, I left it for 5 mins, started
up and drove very gingerly back home – the light has never come back on nor has the car misfired again.
I haven't cleared the codes yet - booked into MRC for Thursday and thought it best if I leave well alone!
