Well after my good friend who is a spot on mechanic doing discs and pads all round for me along with cambelt and full service, my car was due for an MOT... As he is only a small outfit he doesn't do testing on the premesis, he uses a local well known garage for all his testing needs....

Turns out that there is a new tester, and even after repeated warnings and alot of 'NO DONT PUT IT ON THE BRAKE ROLLERS' the new bloke decided he knew best and on it went.... :knob:

Now my front diff is Extremely unwell to say the least, and yet again i'm going to be without my beloved car for god knows how long, as im sure its going to be a fight to get the testing station to cover the cost of the repairs!

Would think it's the centre diff but what are the symptoms?

When they print out the test form it states how the car should be tested.

If they did it wrong they should pay.

why shouldn't you put an RS4 on the brake rollers?

the following is copied from the MOT inspection manual:

"Vehicles not to be tested on a roller brake tester

Certain vehicles should not be tested on a roller brake tester, eg:

-vehicles with More than one driving axle permanently engaged
-Limited-slip differential
-Belt-driven transmission
-Brakes for which the servo operates only when the vehicle is moving

These vehicles should be tested using a properly calibrated and maintained decelerometer or a plate brake tester designated as acceptable for the statutory tests, see Sub-Section 3.7B and C. "

so seeing as a b5 rs4 falls under 2 of the above headings, im guessing they aren't really in a position to argue are they?

recently had the RS4 (B5) MOT'ED at the local Audi main dealer... well it was free... anyway when doing the brake test the car was on the ground with the front wheels on rollers, the wheels rotated slowly enough to watch the spokes going round, each wheel was done in turn. I assume this thread is what happened to the transmission drive to the rear wheels which where not rotating when the front ones where and vice versa?

this is interesting!
What is the difference in the transmission layout on the rs4 to the S2? ( open front & rear diffs with centre tor-sen diff. [S2 has locking rear])
My S2 was mot'ed on rollers for all of the 8 mot's I had done while I owned it.
Nothing was ever damaged!
I acually did ask the first time if there might be a problem with its 4 wheel drive system but was assured there was no problem with the speed the brake rollers go at, & they did dozens of other 4x4's same way?

Had mine MOT'ed today. It was also done on the rollers. Asked the fella lots of questions prior and he assured me he has done lots of quattro's in the same way.

Sure enough no problems.. oh and it passed with no comments...
