Help - Perspective New Owner

Post by ShaneyB » Wed Aug 12, 2009 3:54 pm

Hi all,
Please help me convince the missus this is the car for me. 2001 'X' RS4 Avant in Misano Red, standard and pretty much mint with 111k on the clock for £12995.00.
Problem is I convinced her indoors last September that I needed to get rid of my B5 S4 Avant (remapped etc) because I 'HAD' to have a newer car (now have a '54 plate B6 S4 saloon).
How do I announce that I want to go back to a car 4 years older, double the mileage for the same cost?
Yes I've tried the old 'But it's an RS4' card and I have genuinely wanted one since 2002, this exact spec other than the lack of sunroof.
She has a few good points, running costs, wear an tear, insurance to name a few but she is a girl after all. It's also my wedding Anniversary today and thought it would make a nice pressie for one of us!

Any ideas/suggestions appreciated.

Would you do it the same situation????

Cheers
Shane

I put a thread on there too but no response as yet.

Can't really afford a lower mileage model :-(

It hasn't got turbo's therefore I hate it :-)
The V8 is very nice and you no doubt know about the sound bordering on sexual. Thing is I want to enhance the performance and the gains in the B5 far outweigh the B6. Remap and exhaust will only give me an additional 20ish BHP on the B6 S4, same money as you know will get me a lot more on the B5 RS4. Mileage is my main concern although I've found another red Avant for £14250.00 with 80k, sunroof, nav, remapped and Movit's.
What a dilemma......please help.

Shagga, Hi mate, I would just tell her its a car that is never gonna come up at that price again!
The mileage would not concern me with history. I bought mine last year with 100K and yes I have had a few niggles along the way its not anything a car with 80K wouldnt have. Go with common sense

Thanks Paul,
That's the card I just played. Ultimately it will be my decision but joint accounts, saving to buy a bigger house and a potential newborn being spoke of it falls on deaf ears. Plan K will be get her sozzled tonight and swoon her...that may do the trick.

These are the two I'm looking at:

Go for the RS4 - you only live once!

I would spend a bit extra and get one with less mileage, for example a car at 80k its probably just had a second cambelt change whereas a car at 111k miles probably coming up for a third change. But do some research on Movit's as the discs are astronomically expensive and tend to warp as I understand.....

Don't forget to make sure cams are ok on any RS4 you buy...

As for the wife, no suggestions I am afraid- you're on your own.

member on here derdle has just sold his it was a very good car. my only advice is to have the car inspected prior to purchase either MRC or Unit20, and as we now know about the dreaded cams issue have it inspected for that as well becuase its a £2k job minimum to do. good luck with the impending purchase!

I had exactly the same dilemma with my missus.
I played the exclusivity and desirability card, with a smattering of very little depreciation expected. She liked the look of it and despite being older, was still a very nice interior.

It made me happy, bought her a dress, and bingo... Sorted !

Forgot to mention - have spoken with you on AS Net. And seen your S4 (black saloon) advertised, with the R8 wheels?
Very nice.
The RS4 is sooooooooooo much better than the S4...
