right i'm never 100% but the maf is the sensor just after the air filter box yes? if so can a b7 rs4 maf be used in a b5 rs4.
well not so much can it, but will it cause any long term problems, a friend has let me use his spare b7 one, to see if mine was faulty on the b5, as they looked from the outside to be the same,(same pins and resistor) but they have different numbers on them? it seems to be running ok, if not a little quicker, but there is an occasional stutter in the power delivery, and not at the same point, any help, advice or info appreciated.

I wouldnt run it,it could well be calibrated differently and send incorrect data to your ecu and have your fueling all over the place,a call to someone like mrc would give you the nod either way im sure

...and the verdict is?

MAF's are awful anyway. Had an issue whereby my car wouldn't sustain a constant speed without feeling like it was confused by a tolerance of 1mph i.e. if travelling at 70mph, would feel like it was constantly changing between 69-->70-->69-->70 etc.
Anyway, decided to unplug the MAF - car was awesome - even cured an issue of car lacking responsiveness when hot.
Got a new MAF... any difference................. NO! Speed issue resolved.... yeah... for about 30mins! Responsiveness issue resolved... who f'in knows... I can't tell anymore...

You can buy just the sensor part from www.vastperformance.com

The exchange isn't what it used to be, but I paid $50 delivered a few years ago!

Unplugging that MAF could mask an exisiting fault elsewhere - I think MRC Minhea said it can cause damage running with MAF disconnected for too long a time so be careful :!:

result was as i was told, not a good idea to run as COULD overfuel ect. so i've put origional one back on.
but i've a few issues i want go thru but need a vag com to run some figures. the car felt so much more responsive and i mean much more, if it does overfuel surely i could increace the airflow to match..... remove airfilter or better flowing aftermarket filter. but these need to checked.
