Odd Noise - Im Baffled

Looking for ideas please - changed both rocker cover gaskets a few weeks ago which as you know means removing intake pipe etc etc.

Car has now devleoped a strange whinig noise on the over run - when revved hard (once warm) onj release of the throttle the noise occurs - sounds like a either an air intake leak ? or ...gulp... a turbo bearing??

Your wisdom would be appreciated!

Is it in every gear?

I mean if it was only say third then it could be gearbox problem (early RS4's are notorious for failing boxes).

If it's in every gear or in say 5th and 6th for more of a prolonged period from lower revs then it could point to turbo's are they are under boost for longer periods.

Have you tried running VAG-com to check if it's a boost leak or not?

It occurs when the car is stationary or when on road - had bonnet up last night and appeared to be coming from front of engine - also is not constant - only happens on revving and is worse on overun - then is undetectable at low rev range.

I have vag com so I will run it tonight. There does not seem to be any affect on performance although I have used the car very little since this problem came up.
