Hi All

Came close to an RS4 a year or two ago but went for one of the other German brands instead. Now back in the market for a new car and a bit undecided. Will get out and try some soon but just wondered if anyone has experience of all the cars i am considering i.e. an RS2, RS4 or RS6 Avant (standard or Plus).

I can see good and bad in all three. Just wondered if anyone has experience of running each.

Looking for a good all round car that wont depreciate much (hopefully). Ideally would like to fit a tow bar for my bike rack although i understand this is not so straight forward.


Will try and use the search button too and see what to look out for.

All very different.
Downside of RS2 is lag and a very elderly chassis, bit too old and rare to use daily.
Downside of RS6 is auto only & DRC probs, it's a big comfy car but a bit too big to chuck around
All have their attractions but the RS4 is the best all rounder IMHO opinion and I am not biased as I no longer own one.
BUT RS6's are very attractively priced now and you can get a lot more car for your money than with the other ones, stick coilovers on it and be done with it - I think the newness of the RS6 and chance of less work needed to maintain it (if bought carefully) compared with the other 2 would be a big factor for me having spent loads on an RS4 in 18 months and only using it at weekends.

Thanks for the post. Thats the sort of answers i was hoping for and very similar thoughts to mine i.e. RS6's do seem to be a very good buy at the moment.

I also have a very quick fun/weekend/track car so the RS will be for day to day use and trips away. Again the 6 may be very good for that.

One of my main concerns is depreciation. Having lost a fortune on my last car i dont want to do it again. RS2 is a very safe bet but just wondering where prices settle for the RS4 and RS6/6 plus

Problem with RS6 imo is the extra running costs for gearbox, clutch and auto transmission plus the lack of a manual box to really get the feel of the car.

I reckon the B7 is a safer buy in a few months if they step into your budget. If not get a nice clean low mileage B5 and get it setup properly.

I actually looked at the new RS4's last year and really wanted one but was put off by the non existent legroom in the back although it did have the front bucket seats.

Cant see these getting down to my budget soon though unless its a high miler.

In the longer term I would assume the V8 engine car will depreciate more, The B5 Rs4 is way too cheap at the moment (not that I'm bias or anything ) I would maintain this the better long term option. RS2 best bet of course but not a daily driver.
