what sort of problems could a faulty exhaust gas temp sensor cause ?

orderd a repair kit but on back order from audi .

sorry. b5 rs4 with remap and full miltek

It can cause limp mode, car will run richer, ignition is being retarded a bit and you will lose some power.

how would u diagnose a faulty egt sensor?and how much are the repair kits?

Faulty / failing EGTs usually bring up fault codes which can be read with VAG-COM.

In addition to the above symptoms, you may also experience mis-fires under WOT conditions which will bring on the EPC light temporarily.
