Knock sensor

Post by lushman » Mon Dec 22, 2008 11:03 pm

Hi All,

I have been having problems with exhaust sensor which is hand to get replaced (2nd gear hard acceleration causes the car to put on ESP light and back off the power) Also the last few days I have noticed just the yellow ABS triangle flashes and not the ESP light also.

The MAF was changed prior to getting a custom remap (Two weeks ago)

Prior to the remap on a couple of occaisions I noticed a knocking coming from the right handside of the engine looking at it from the bumper when cold. This disapeared after driving until the engine was warm.

A friend put the car on VAG com and it noted that knock sensor 4,5 and 6 intermittent fault.

Asking a newbie question; Are there knock sensors for each pot?

Until I get this sorted am I causing serious damage to the engine?

I use BP ultimate for fuel but I am none the wiser as to what the previous owner used.

Any help would be a great benifit.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Thanks for the replies but on VAG it is showing low voltage to one side of the engine. I am assuming the problem is a lot deeper. In between getting this resolved I will shop about trying Shell and Tesco super and see what runs better in the engine.
If you have any ideas on my post "Help plz" it would be great. The exhaust sensor is being sorted in the New Year when the mechanic is better.

Cheers Paul

I think there is one knock sensor per bank. Closest to cylinders 2 and 5 (middle). I think they are the brown plugs on the firewall, you could try
checking those connections.
