Non-Starter...

Car has been problem free for over a year then it won't start.
It fires up for like 2 seconds, then dies.
I tried it loads of time, all the same.
Fuel pump buzzes away, all lights go out.
I left it over night, tried it in the moring. It fired up and idled (albeit low) for 10 seconds, then when I went to press accelerator, it died and wouldn't start.
Idea's?
I thought MAF. Is this a symptom?

Key coding, problem with the reader coil on the lock not picking up the key?

The stored fault codes should send you in the right direction.

Hmm I could try the spare key too. Could this also be at fault?

Had an intermittent problem on the gf's TT- sometimes first time, sometimes have to wait for the immobiliser light to go out, sometimes have to try a couple more times. Advised by Audi (!) that it could be either the reader coil or the key but the random nature means if we tried the other key it maybe coincidental that it fires up- advised to wait until it becomes permanent....... cheers Audi....... :beerchug:

Steve

sounds just like keys coding - had the same a few months back as I had bought another key but the dealers had not coded it properly

Also had the same issues with my daughters Polo. Very intermittent and ended up being a faulty reader coil

I had a non starter issue with my B7 RS4, when pushing the start button nothing happened, it later turned out to be the starter motor, in it went to Audi, and 3 days later came out with a new radiator, starter motor and alternator..would you believe it,i was caused by corrosion!

hopefully your wont be a severe as that...hmmm TBH I never though about trying the second key!

I think it is the water temp sensor.
On diagnostic it was reading water temp as 102c. Car had not been started for days, and air temp was 7c!!

Well in theory if the sensor is telling the ecu it is 102c then the ecu will not bother with coldstart, and secondly to compensate for the heat, the fuel will be pouring in, running so rich it will...well not run!!
