WANTED - RS4
WANTED - RS4
Hi everyone I originally posted in the classifieds this afternoon however, just to make sure of a complete response I thought i'd post here as well. So apologies mods for a repeat post but please don't delete.
Hi guys,
I would like to call on everyone’s assistance in helping me find a B5 RS4. I’ve been lurking on the forum for some time now and finally decided that I want to get a B5, the B7 is currently out of my price range at the moment. I have however, a couple of initial questions;
1. Would I still be able to get parts for the car in 5yrs time?
2. How reliable are the cars.
3. Are there any decent service centres in the Midlands who could take care of the car. One of the reasons why I have held out so long in changing my current car is because the specialist I am with is excellent. And my experience of mechanics/garages is not very good to say the least. It’s easy I think to buy a relatively good car but harder to find an honest mechanic/garage.
4. I will be changing from a diesel so the RS4 will be my only car. If I’m not using it to hard what sort of mpg can I expect? I do about 12k miles a year.
Essentially I am after an Avus blue car, although I will consider other colours red is nice. I’d like something low mileage as I intend to keep the car for at least 5yrs. And if I go down the private purchase road would any of the members help me in inspecting the car. I would be willing to pay for expenses etc. Oh and finally my budget is about 23k. I do hope for that sort of money I have access to the best examples. However, if its cheaper well that’s even better!

RE: WANTED - RS4
Right, I only have mine for a month so will be faaaaar from the best advice on here. But, from my research, I'd say:
1)Most definitely.
2)Considering their power and engineering: very. But when something breaks it probably won't be cheap and Consumables esp. tyres and discs are also relatively expensive.
3)I'm in Ireland so can't help you, though MRC (near Bromley I believe) appear to be the Usain Bolt's of RS4 servicing, tuning and general caring-for!
4)I changed from a 2.0TDi, it was the best motoring decision of my life by the way, and my fuel consumption has plummeted. A 100 mile mainly motorway trip now returns about 23mpg. It seems to me though that, if you concentrate on driving it easy, keeping the revs very low, it's quite possible to see high 20's. You won't though, it's just too good.
I'd imagine, at 23k, your budget, in the current climate particularly should allow you to go for the cream of the crop. Although patience, as much as pounds, will likely be required.
Good luck, I just couldn't recommend this car enough.

RE: WANTED - RS4
1. Yes
2. For the power, very reliable
3. MRC. Mines been there for health check and serice. I am very fussy. Doug and co. are very good
4. 18-25mpg. Depends on how you drive it. I managed an average of 27.2 on a trip up to MRC with the wife as my "speed limiter"
Mine might be up for sale, 55k Misano red., 51 plate, FSH, Just serviced, new pads all round, new tyres, new Hotchkis ARB's, Milltek Catback. Possibly the cleanest Misano on the market. I am known for my "anal" cleaning!! I have pampered this car, it is a second car and stays garaged at all times. I want 21k ono, and
I am only thinking of selling due to possible emigration to Australia. I may even take it with me...

RE: WANTED - RS4
On my second Avus RS4- both 2000X- latest had some choice upgrades and was a low-miler- 42000, now 53000 14 months later. You will find no better outfit than MRC in Banbury- they are RS/Audi to the core and are not secretive with their knowledge/costs- all totally transparent. The RS4 is a thoroughly engineered car but is heavy and brakes/suspension take a bit of a pummelling- upgrades are available and you can factor in about 5k for B7 brakes and Bilstein/H&R suspension inc labour. If you rag it like any other car you will suffer like any other in petrol and consummables. The age of most cars mean a health check is a good idea for boost leaks, sensor malfunction and MAF readings- see other threads. MPG seems to be variable- thrash them and you'll see <15mpg, sensibly driven long jouneys should see 23-28mpg, or if you drive like I did last week, non-stop from Durham-Exmouth at 67 on the cruise- 35mpg average on the DIS- unbelievable for a car with 440bhp!! Get a decent straight car, sensible mods/upgrades to newer components and RS4's are extremely capable cars. Not actually Audi's, bodyshells handed over to Quattro Gmbh and fitted with bespoke hardware, engines handed over to Cosworth Engineering (then owned by the group)- thats why they are so much more than the newer B7's. Wheels are <beep>- aftermarkets preferred. Moved from an A4 1.8tQ and RS4- comparable economy- so much torque you don't have to go nuts with the loud pedal unless you're in the mood. Good luck- the cars are still out there, don't make the mistake I did and dive into a car without all the kit you want- I lost 5k in one year moving from one I liked to one I REALLY liked.......

Thanks for all the posts guys. There are two cars which I am currently considering;
http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... ic&t=72392
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/610480.htm
Any comments on either car appreciated. The last car is owned by a forum member.
From what I've read thus far the cars came standard with quite a high spec of options. Is Sat Nav however any good - beacuse all the original sat nav systems in most cars aren't a patch on the newer ones.
My first mission when I get my car is to get the brake upgrade and MRC seem to do a reasonable priced upgrade.
If anybody knows of any other good examples please let me know. Once again thanks for the advice.
ps. I'm moving from a 9-year-old 2.5diesel Volvo!!!!!

Hiya,
Mine will be up for sale next week, haven't got around to doing advert anywhere yet, but as a guide its a Misano Red 2002 model with only 49k on clock, full Audi service history, full black leather + carbon interior, all possible extras (satnav/sunroof/leccy heated seats etc etc). Also lowered susp, short shift. Mot/service due in next month or so, which I'll sort prior to sale.
PM if you're interested and I'll send more info/pics/price.

I agree with most of what's been said above. If you take care of these cars, they are as reliable as any other Audi out there. Consumables like brakes and tires are quite expensive and can set you back quite a few £ if due for replacement. The general build quality on these cars is very high and they are a blast to drive. With respect to the brakes, unless you plan on driving the car on the track frequently, IMHO this would be a total waste of money. Whatever you decide to you, I'd recommend you ask a member to have a preliminary look at the car and then have a thorough pre-purchase inspection performed by a reputable shop.rtd wrote: My first mission when I get my car is to get the brake upgrade and MRC seem to do a reasonable priced upgrade.
Good luck!
