MRC 500 S4 or FMIC/Milltek/Remapped B5 RS4
MRC 500 S4 or FMIC/Milltek/Remapped B5 RS4
I posted this in the S4 forum, hope the forum mods don't mind me posting it here as I'd just like to get viewpoints from RS4 owners as well.
Just wondering, for a car that will spend 90+% of the time on wide straight highways, which will you choose?
Do they both cost about the same or would the RS4 still be the dearer option?
What about running costs and reliability?
Much thanks from a novice.

Saloon or Estate? If you want an estate car get an RS4
RE: MRC 500 S4 or FMIC/Milltek/Remapped B5 RS4
Would there be a huge difference in costs for the 2 specs you've got there?

That why I asked, I'm under the impression that they would be similar in costs?S25MRS wrote:Would there be a huge difference in costs for the 2 specs you've got there?
As to whether saloon or estate, it doesn't matter to me though I am aware RS4s only come in Avant form.
RE: Re: RE: MRC 500 S4 or FMIC/Milltek/Remapped B5 RS4
Even it doesn't mater which shape you want, i'd go for an RS4
RE: Re: RE: MRC 500 S4 or FMIC/Milltek/Remapped B5 RS4
The RS4 would more than likely hold onto its value for longer, but imagine you already realise you would do well to get back any costs of mod's carried out....personally though, RS4 definately!

RE: Re: RE: MRC 500 S4 or FMIC/Milltek/Remapped B5 RS4
The cost required to upgrade items for an S4 that will handle 500 bhp more reliably, means (usually) using RS4 OEM items. The cost of these items can be over 2k (check out the classifieds) excluding turbos, re map etc.... then you need suspension and brakes even bigger wheels... so the cost is dependant on your budget really.
I personally wouldn't want a FMIC... exhaust and re map will definately see big diffferance on RS4 and cheaper too. Then of course S4's are cheaper to buy so it all becomes relative really

Agreed. That's sort of why I started the poll.... using my simple novice math:davs4 wrote:The cost required to upgrade items for an S4 that will handle 500 bhp more reliably, means (usually) using RS4 OEM items. Good S4 can be bought for less than 8k + MRC 500
would be similar in costs to -
Good RS4 + Milltek + FMIC + MRC remap
Or am I way out here?? Please help

Milltek + FMIC + MRC remap = 3kish + RS4 (personal preference for what you call good)
Or buy my S4 allready modded

Already modded S4 would be a lot cheaper, I reckondavs4 wrote:Milltek + FMIC + MRC remap = 3kish + RS4 (personal preference for what you call good)

You can get an S4 to 440ish remarkably cheaply. The extra bit does cost you a lot more, its well into diminishing returns territory. However if you dont go to a tuner to get it all done for you (shop around for the parts and labour, get MRC to do the remapping) then Id say the S4 would be a considerably cheaper option.
However the RS4 will hold its value much better, the modded S4 basically doesnt add to the value of the car in most peoples eyes, infact just intensive mods would likely put people off. If you intend holding onto it for years, then who cares!

I think in the end, that's exactly what I'll do - wait for a well-done S4 to come up.davs4 wrote:Milltek + FMIC + MRC remap = 3kish + RS4 (personal preference for what you call good)

Case in point, that red S4 with hybrid turbos and supporting ancillaries, 480hp for only 8k - was it a bargain or what? Didn't last long in the classifieds
