Has anyone retro-fitted the sat nav unit to an RS4? Can you get up to date mapping?
Is the wiring already present?
Would it be better to fit a unit from a later A4?
Any recommendations as to who could do this in SW England?
Presumably the TV function which is, I think, analogue will cease to function with the advent of digital TV and the switching off of analogue transmissions?

There's no point retro-fitting the factory Sat Nav of the B5 RS4 i.e. CD-based Sat Nav (RNS-D), as this is dated, 2007 version maps are the last maps to be released for this unit (as advised by Audi) and as you stated, the analogue TV will probably cease to work.
RNS-E which is the DVD-based Sat Nav is the way forward. Although if you are thinking of doing this, you'd need a unit from an A6 IIRC (there is a thread regarding this, with instructions and requirements in order to fit it).
This unit comes with digital TV as well I believe...

Yep as said, the RNS-E unit is the one to go for
You need a A6 (4B) RNS-E unit, a GPS antenna, adapter wiring. Then you need to do some CAN wiring, and also some coding via VAG-COM or equivalent. Also you might find you don't like the way the unit fits, as it has a few mm gap on each side. Bottom needs to be chopped off slightly.
Digital TV tuner is not built into the unit, but can easily be done. Depending on if your car has a OEM TV Tuner, then you could go the new hybrid option from the latter Audi's, or if you haven't then go aftermarket, i.e. Alpine

I used a multimedia adapter, which you can buy from Kufatec and the likes.
This uses the 32pin grey connector on the rear of the unit, and gives you AV inputs.
Then all you do is, use a IR remote eye connected to the Alpine TV Tuner, to control it, or alternatively buy the more expensive adapters which alow you to control it from the RNS-E, but not entirely sure if they work with the Alpine tuner.
I just finished my setup last week, and so far results are impressive!
