Mysterious Power Loss

Keep losing power down to I guess 250hp even though the engine runs smooth. Subsequently get engine warning light with fault suggesting defective MAF or air leak. Have tested for leaks, replaced MAF (twice), even changed the remap in case it was a degraded program. Problem still comes back. Any suggestions?
PS I am at Le Mans for a couple of days (in a bloody diesel A3), so won't respond to replies for a couple of days. Thanks for any help.

Any codes from VAG-COM?

As far as I'm aware the MAF will not give a fault code even when reading low due to aging... possibly air leak?
Get vag-com plugged in and start logging tell tale blocks... MAF readings, boost pressures etc. Don't have block numbers off hand but as far as I call 003 and 115

Not sure of the numbers but apparently it is usually associated with defective MAF or an air leak. Checked all that including specialist kit for the air test. Next suggestion is deteriorated cats. F***ing car.

Sounds similar to a problem mine had a year ago, turned out to be exhaust temp sensors.

me too the car would go great until around 4500 rpm then it would kick into limp mode until the engine was turned off then restarted, turned out it was a dead egt sensor killed off by a duff maf

Unfortunately mine didn't respond by turning off and restarting. Turned out to be deteriorated cats.
