If my B5 engine has been remapped [ still has standard exhaust, propbably original ] is it possible to tell??

I know I am a novice when it comes to the engines, but I love the performance.

thanks in advance

Easy if you have Vag Com, if not find someone who has, where are you based?

www.ross-tech.com

Without it, short of racing another B5 I wouldn't know where to start apart from poss visually inspecting ECU (though I'd rather deliver newspapers and save enough to buy Vag Com!)

Do you get a surge of power at 5000 rpm? (feels a bit like another powerband)

Is that typical of a stock car or remapped? My MTM stage 2 car had that when the MAF was on the way out, since then it's one solid powerband from 3000rpm until the rev limiter.
Is yours stock Mike and how old's your MAF :?

Grizz is in Liverpool and I bet he can help you iLoveMyRS4

New maf last week and mrc seal of approval.

Dougs words are that a std car acts more like a normally aspirated car and a mapped car has much more torque, similar to the pick up of an S4(just more power!)

Would have thought that the power delivery is more of a characteristic of the map and would vary according to supplier.

I only found out that my car had a stage 1 remap when it was put on a rolling road, although I believe the peak MAF reading would also give a indication.

the remap gives you more torque and as neckarsulm says one really nice band all the way round. It makes driving the car much nicer as it has picup in most gears at low revs, whereas the stock car can be a little lacking at low revs and needs to be driven in the right gear.

as neckarsulm says, try grizz in Neston, Wirral area, he has vagcom and there is also a rolling road just round the corner if you want to be bang on (www.dynodemon.co.uk)

grizz is on the forum, just sorted my car out.

You've got a harsh map.

Yep, I can't believe that no one would know the difference between a standard car and a remapped one especially from 380bhp to 450bhp.

Unless you have driven both a remapped and a standard car, how would you know? Can't compare one car on it's own if you don't drive RS4s on a regular bases. If your usual car is a ford Ka etc. A standard car will feel like 500bhp.....
