Pesky airbag warning light

Hi guys, after having Recaro pole positions fitted the airbag light is permanently illuminated, my passengers look at it nervously.

I've tried fitting resistors but no dice, I guess the computer may need to be reminded theres no seat airbag.

Can anyone recommend somebody in the Reading area that fan rectify it?

Cheers!

Steve

Should be fine with resistors, you just have to find the right value resistor. I'm not sure of the value, I gues it's just a case of trial and error. The airbag system will need the fault codes erased every time in order to switch out the light, even if the fault has gone the light will stay illuminated for around 50 ignition cycles.

Whatever you do, don't measure the resitance of the old seat airbags..... you can ignite the airbag!

Can you recode the airbag controller using Vag Com to not expect seat airbags?

No. There are only a couple of options regarding coding an airbag unit, and all codes look for front seats. Besides, I'm sure an airbag unit can only be coded once.

im sure there is an article on audiworld about some guy who had same problem as yourself and he mentions the correct resistor required.
BTW my airbag light only went ouy with the VAS diagonostic tool and not VAGCOM. Dont know why but it couldnt communicate with the airbag controler :?
HTH.

Steve, the resistors I gave you are the right resistance(0.4Ohms I think), they've been working fine on my S4 for well over a year.

Did you know you need to clear the code with Vagcom once you've fitted the resistors? Once you've cleared it, it won't come back with the resistors in place.
