Replacing my aged GTI with an RS4

Hello chaps (and ladies if there are any),
I'm looking to replace my ageing 8v GTI with something a bit more amusing; and had thought of a Lotus Exige, or even a new GTI - but then that hankering for an RS4 came to my mind.
I don't need one, but really want one and at last I've managed to satisfy SWMBO that I can buy one

Am I barking up the wrong tree (OK wrong place to ask) and is the one I've seen at a respected (I think) unofficial dealer a reasonable deal assuming all is OK - X Reg 21K for £26K?
Many thanks in advance and as I said in my 'welcome' post - if you need broadband advice you're welcome at

Welcome!
Is it Noggy Blue/Silver leather @ Fontain for 26k?
If it that car, it was advertised in Kent for a fair bit less and Fontain snapped it up around 6-8 weeks ago.
Looks like a nice car though.
I have had numerous GTIs etc and nothing has bonded with me like my RS4 so buy a good one and you wont regret it. There is a lot of crap around and not all that specialists sell is that great so be careful.
Good luck!

Yes thats the one, and yes I've seen a couple of ads for it for less - however it still seems a reasonable price - I am making a list of 'things to look for' on paper compiled from the tips I've garnered from your posts so I hope its OK - however if anyone knows different then I'd like to know in advance!
I'm going to try and find a time to see it next week.

Have seen that one in the flesh at Fontain's, it looks immaculate.
If i'm guessing correctly on your whereabouts, it will be another RS4 to look out for around Battersea/Wandsworth.

There was a thread on this car back in Jan which may be worth you having a look at.

I don't need one
Once you've driven one for a few minutes, you'll realise that you
do need one! It's a "heart" thing rather than a "head" thing!

Hello
That car has been at fontains for some time now it was there three weeks after i got mine from them and that was in mid febuary. I also have had a good look over that last week, check the back doors as they look to be rubbing at the bottom on the sill, plus the over flow pipe for the rad has been leaking, may need a new pipe. But it looks clean and a low mileage to make sure thay have changed the water pump when they did the cambelt.

That might be a design flaw as I've had that on the 4 for years.

welcome aboard...
we got ours from Fontain... and had the following things wrong we didnt notice until on our way home to Scotland..
1) cruise control didnt work- needed a clutch sensor?
2) ashtray wouldnt open
3) under tray MISSING
4rear window demister switch broken...483 quid replacement module...fortunately for me my dealer broke a module I found on ebay so they had to replace it at their cost:):)
5) no anti theft bolt in the boot
6)rear discs needed replaced
7)passenger side light connection arm to suspension arm wasnt connected

centre arm rest hinge broken
it was by no means a quality P.D.I carried out and these minor niggely probs are easily overlooked when your itching to take it for a spin....
NO SERVICE HISTORY.... JUST the log book, we gave up asking for it in the end and just got hold of it myself with a bit of a pain in the @rse chasing up previous dealer stamp to get a history of what they did. MAKE SURE Keith gives it to you by hand!!!!!
just our 2 p worth
enjoy it and welcome to RS ownership

Got my first RS from Fontains- not that much wrong- just the little stuff you'd expect on a (then) 6 year old car. On my second now- both had the door/sill issue onthe same door NS rear- very odd.....
[/quote]Cruise control? RS4?- yeah blackblade- for those days when you just can't be bothered.........
