MAF on the way out?
MAF on the way out?
Good evening all, did quite a bit of digging with regards to MAF readings. Recently purchased and a touch down on power, thought it may be maf and did a fats run running vagcom. The results are below, can someone cast their eye over them and confirm my suspcions? Cheers.

RE: MAF on the way out?
if you want my advice change the maf asap as a matter of course. the figures look a little low but what you dont want is the maf going dead and taking out the egt and lambda sensors which is what will happen. changing the maf is an easy diy job.

RE: MAF on the way out?
For the sake of £80 or so i'd replace it as a matter of preventative maintenance
Plus as mentioned DIY job so you can't go wrong.
Mine surprisingly was original from day one!

RE: MAF on the way out?
So was mine when I had it changed a couple of months back... surprising that they aren't part of a standard service really.

Ditto for me too. Had it changed along with a lamba sensor. The car is back on song now...R5YUG wrote:So was mine when I had it changed a couple of months back... surprising that they aren't part of a standard service really.

Ken, get the sensor only from http://www.vastperformance.com - should be less than £35 delivered from the US.
Figures look low to me, you should be max'ing out the MAF readings on vag-com at your stage of tune (364.08 g/s).

RE: Re: RE: MAF on the way out?
Cheers guys... had my suspicions after dyno came in low and the readings look a little low but wanted to get a second opinion on it. It should max them out I would have imagined.
Re: RE: MAF on the way out?
How do you guys know if its the original one? Does it have a date on it somewhere?dace wrote:Ditto for me too. Had it changed along with a lamba sensor. How long does the delivery normally take Nige?Nige_RS4 wrote:Ken, get the sensor only from http://www.vastperformance.com - should be less than £35 delivered from the US.

Re: RE: Re: RE: MAF on the way out?
They are fast too, but IIRC you need google_shop account to buy.dhali wrote:How long does the delivery normally take Nige?Nige_RS4 wrote:Ken, get the sensor only from http://www.vastperformance.com - should be less than £35 delivered from the US.

LOL, I have about 5 spare mafsensors and one in the glovebox all the time. The maf housing screws are hacked for normal screwdriver.

Mine took less than a week and I order a pressure tester too (which is a big item). How long does the delivery normally take Nige?

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: MAF on the way out?
Hi Dhali- yep the unit has a date stamp- mine was also the original- after 8 years. Never realised what a big deal they are until 1) the gf's TT had a massive hole in the mid-range, confirmed by a VAGcom run. 60 quid later job done, and 2) have noticed a subtle but definite improvement in performance since mine was changed. Also relieved it hadn't (hopefully) had chance to cook the EGT's and lambda sensors!

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: MAF on the way out?
New one ordered in this morning... thanks Nige for the heads up on where to pick it up. Get it changed over and do the reset through vagcom and recheck the readings. Hopefully should go a long way in finding the missing hp. Did a full diagnostics and nothing else showing up....
