The point about the one mentioned above is the blackjax anti car-jacking feature. Jacking ins't probably a problem in rural Scotland but get closer to any city in the badlands of Engerlund and there is a real possibility. It's a peace of mind thing IMO.

Great thing about the blackjax is that even if someone has your keys it doesn't make a difference. If the code isn't entered within 30 seconds the car shuts down and alarm goes off. The trend nowadays is for them to break into the house and get the keys. The Cliffords also have tilt alarm aswell as proximity sensor. If someone tries to jack it up to nick wheels the alarm will be going off before a single wheel leaves the ground.

every car i have owned with a clifford has gone tits up,usually down to poor fitting or failure, the new gsm alarms are quite nifty, you can control/disable from your mobile, rings you if its being tampered with too

be aware, if you are car jacked its usually nice if they get as far away from you as possible I reckon 30 secs is enough to preserve a car, but not necessarily you ask anyone who has had it done

Have to agree with the nutter about the Clifford- had a Corrado with one fitted and it usually conspired to piss me off more than any thief- lets face it, unless they really want it most opportunists would walk away at the first hurdle. And if they REALLY want it they'll come tooled up and take it out on you if you mess it up for them. Get a Tracker and let them THINK they've got a way with it. :bash:

I was mulling over with the choices of alarms and tracker got rulled out. Tracker can be very easily gotten around appartently. There is small little jammers you can get that'll screw them up. Cover the aeriel (for the older style trackers, BTW no its not the car ariel). Park it in an underground car park and disconnect battery for a few days. Battery in tracker goes dead. Park it in a container. Park it somewhere like above and strip it out.

At the end of the day if they are determined enough they will get it.

Anti hijack will stop the little opportunists breaking into your house and taking the car for a damned good rip before burning it out somewhere. Good clifford will include tilt and proximity sensors too which will help stop it being lifted, jacked up or towed without alarm going off.

Well that was my original point Ken, and you are right- anything can be gotten around- I am lucky enough to run other vehicles, so that reduces the risk to kick off with- but when I'm not using it there's a little man with a gun guarding it!! Tried to get myself an insurance discount for that one- you can probably guess the outcome......
Its unfortunate that we now live in a society where this kind of thing goes on- don't want to get political but if we were just allowed to bear arms and see THEM off for a change life would be sweet.....
Just to get back to my last post- some of those aftermarket alarms are just too clever for their own good and usually end up inconveniencing the owner on a regular basis rather than the one in a thousand prospective car thieves that may take a shine to your motor. As Brooner mentioned we have an alarm hard wired in from the factory for the parking scenario and hopefully common sense and defensive (not to say fast) measures to deal with on the fly attempts- door locks, armoured glass film etc. I'm sure trackers can be neutralised, but if you don't advertise you've got one how will they know til its too late?? Apparently response times are much better now and there are system 'enhancements' because the police know that theres always a good chance of ultimately finding more than one stolen car if they keep their powder dry..... :assflash:

Its entirely up to the owner and its basically reducing risk. Just get it installed by a good fitter who gives you a warrenty with it. I'm based over in Ireland so tracker choice is limited.... much more established in the UK. Best bet in the long run is a combination of a number of these... i.e. anti hijack, proximity, tilt sensor, tracker.... they can all be gotten around but would be a pain in the back end to do, especially without the alarm going off or being imobilised

you can retrofit proximity/tilt sensors etc. to the original alarm system,i did this on my previous d2 s8 after attempted theft
