Front Mount Intercooler Guys

Post by RSTaSIS4 » Wed May 07, 2008 5:38 am

Hi Pals,

Just wondering if anyone of the FMIC guys are running into issues with higher than normal water temperature.

I am currently running a DUH, Due to the fact that our engine bay is so small and tight, Everything is so packed, after the FMIC is fitted in, the factory Fan no longer fit in. I am fine on Highway, However, when i got stuck in traffic after some pulls, my water temp is higher than other RS4s with side mount intercooler.

Any suggestion to improve my current situation?

You could try an audi factory water rad without the gearbox heat exchanger built in (A6 I think), this gives better circulation of the water, then you have to fit a small oil cooler for the gearbox in one of the sides where the intercooler used to be.

You could try without the oil/water sleeve near the oil filter to separate out the oil and water cooling, not sure how much difference it will make?

I run without the belly pan under the engine, others have tried cutting the existing one, without the guard my temps are much lower.

I never went with the FMIC because of my ambient temps and need for the aircon, I find the side mounts work perfectly well.

As you can see here (http://www.duhengineering.com/fmic/gall ... /09/08.jpg), there was also a 16" Electric fan ($200)........do you have it?

Mine gets too hot on track (DUH on a RS4 with 520BHP). I'm getting an auxilary Water rad fitted by MRC next month which should cure the problem. This is a custom rad which fits in the drivers side intercooler pod.

even the sidemounted 500+ cars get bigger main radiators by removing the water/gearbox cooler.
