My RS has sprung a leek!!
Water is collecting in the rear offside footwell.
Got in the car for the first time in four weeks to find about 20mm of water.
Removed what i could see with many sponges, and the stuff kept re-appearing when driving, particularly when accelerating,... at one point it sounded like i had a small sea in the back of the car.
Throughout the day i stopped many times to soak up the water, and am now left with a car that smells like wet socks!!!!
Any one had a similar problem?
I'm assuming that a seal has split somewhere which is allowing water to get into the cill, and then into the car.

I got this steamy window problem most likely leaves and debris in the bulkhead blocking the the drain points. clear it out and see how u get on.


may be not just re-read, the rear foot well, sorry no idea.

Check the bulkhead drain plugs for starters.

One is easily visible, other one is harder, and the battery/battery tray has to be removed to access

Its just really wierd to be be collecting in the rear footwell!!

I had this in my UrS4.... dry now without me doing anything (apart from dry it out) hasnt returned since... at a complete loss how the water got there!!

Is the front passenger well damp? It might not be immediately obvious if the water is running backwards depending on how your car is parked.

The B5 A4 and A6 are known for letting water in around the base of the pollen filter when leaves and dirt gather around the bulkhead area. If this is the cause then I am guessing that when you accelerate you are perhaps forcing the water rearward.

Does your car have a sunroof? One of the other known leaks is the drains for the sunroof. These have been known to fill the rear quarter panels where the 6CD unit resides.

PS neither of these are difficult to fix. However, if you let water into the front passenger well appart from the damp smell. There are a number of ECUs under the front seat which control central locking interior lights etc which can be flooded = EXPENSIVE!

I had this problem a few months back, the drain plugs were full of acorns and leaves, causing water to fill up in the bulkhead / skuttle and over into the phlem chamber (where the pollen filter is) and into the heater pipes. (The lowest point pushes the water into the drivers side rear vents under the seat.
Remove all the plastic cowling, take the battery out and it's tray and vac all the leaves and debris out, also worthwhile using an airline down the drain holes to make sure they are clear. I also replaced the pollen filter whilst I was there and re-sealed everything with silicone just to be safe!

Forgot to mention that when you clean those rubber grommets out, it's best to remove them, and you'll see like a flower shape at the bottom of it.

Due to this, it clogs up. So best to cut the bottom of it, so you still have the rubber grommet part, and put it back.

I guess if you don't do this, it will only be a matter of time before it blocks up again!

Presently having just cleard the garage out, the car in now parked under cover and drying out.
Thought that this was the priortiy before trying to find the leak....
Was very concerned to find that there are a load of rather inportant electrics
under the seat,..... however, nothing seems to have gone tits up yet!
Will have a look at both the bulk head drains, and the sunroof.
From what R5YUG has experienced, my problem seems to be exactly the same.
