The Hedge is Back

Post by jeffw » Sat Feb 16, 2008 9:17 pm

As some of you will of realised I've been disappoint with the power output of my newly aquired green RS4. Spent the day at MRC today and once young Doug had replaced the oil cooler which was spreading it's contents across the underside of the car he health checked the car.

Pressure test was fine, no codes via vag-com. He then drove the car and said it felt like a remapped car with a good exhaust which fits with the 426 on the RR.

On goes all the electronic mapping stuff and a wide band lamda, Doug fits the 600cc injectors and a 4 bar FPR to replace the 5bar one and Mihnea and I head off to map the car.....Several miles later the fueling is OK and the car is pulling like a train. 438 g/s airflow (547 BHP if you use the 0.8 conversion factor) and 3.2 FATS uphill having started from 3800 rpm WOT are the main figures with 26psi max boost.
Mihnea seems impressed with the car :)

Back to MRC and Doug takes it and comes back with a smile and says that it's "OK" now.

The car is Awesome and the drive back really showed the difference.

Very please, thanks to Doug & Mihnea....cheque is in the post ;)

Great news about the car Jeff.

Tells me everything I need to know about rolling road tuning vs. real road tuning. Who needs all the hassle and confusion over fudge factors, cooling issues, traction issues etc...

Did Minhea think it had the MTM head work done? If so, why was it producing so few horses?

Mihnea was actually impressed with the low compression/head work, the car certainly pulls all the way to the red line. Basically Mihneas reckons on the day it was mapped by MTM it made the figures but the ECU has adapted itself to give the lower figures and run rich. Maxing out the standard injectors while using a 5Bar FPR seems to be an issue as well.

Good to see you again today Jeff, and glad you're happy with it as it is ;) I personally thought it runs really well, can't complain about much at all about the engine and the way it runs.

It's certainly had a lot of money spent on it. Typical matelot, can't sleep past 6am either. How's it going Jack :)
