Oil in Turbo inlet pipe !

Guys

Had my RS4 into the garage ( again ) and the mechanics continue to tell me my turbo's are needing replaced due to leaks inside the housing that can't be reached ? They have a couple of pics taken showing oil inside the pipe ( dont know which pipe it is as i am not that techy.

I am obviously not keen on replacing the turbos unnecessarily especially as the engine seems to be working fine at the moment , having replaced the MAF, DV's and N75 thingy.

There is also no bad whining noise or any mechanical sounds that give me cause for their being a major turbo failure. No smoke either, just sometimes burning smells from something burning on start up which eventually goes away.

Any thoughts from the expert knowledge base here that could help me in solving the oil leakage issue and working out if the turbos are the problem ?

Unfortunately as i live in Hong Kong, popping over to MRC is not on my list of options... The guys at the garage should know what they are doing as the manager used to have an RS4, so i am inclined to accept their advice, but the expense is daunting...

The oil is from the PCV system. It's condensed oil vapour from the crankcase and cam covers. If it's really bad
then it can be a sign of worn piston rings. It's definitely not turbos, leaky turbos end up in the exhaust.

That has really put my mind at rest - now i can spend the cash on something nice like the brake upgrade and perhaps more...

Mines got more oil than that, is there any way of telling if the piston rings are worn apart from removing the head?

Not sure if graced is the word I'd use! Hmmm there are some quite good "clubs" in Birmingham....but one of those nights out is on a par with the cost of a Milltek. lol. Will have to see ;-)

Mine had this noted at its 50k service,audi reckoned the same turbos on the way out so replaced them under warranty,i obviously didnt argue but know its normal,it made no difference to the level of oil in the pipework but nice to have 2 new turbos under warranty lol

Why don't you just take a spark plug out and do a compression test? You can get a compression gauge from an auto parts shop. If you squirt some oil in and the compression goes up then you know there's a prob with the rings though you might need to check the valve guides as well but getting a bit beyond my expertise now.
