Do you ever fear the worst when something goes wrong??

Yesterday my car went for an MoT - left it at the garage (well known to me). Later they called to say she had passed but said the car was "stuck" in the MoT bay cos they couldn't select reverse. I told them they needed to be a "man" to get the car in reverse, so went to show them how. F**k it wouldn't go in reverse..or 1st or anything.

Logic told me it was something stupid and simple...but the mind ran riot and I was mentally posting here asking about a recon gearbox etc. Why the f**k did my mind go there?

Anyway, it was simple and fixed for £60. Phew.

Anyone else have a mind that runs away like that, or am I simply a ****??

I used to think like that but now I say fcuk it thats what is to be expected of the RS4 ownership experience, you just get used to the fact they fail at the most awkward time like just before a family outing or on the way to work which gets you a boll#cking at work and home,I have a red Nissan Micra which is more reliable and costs nothing to run and usually sails through its mot and the old girls done double the mileage of the RS and never needs to go to the garage for repairs.

Cheers "Bingo"

I always fear the worst. I had a similar experience with my S4 when I couldn't get reverse. Ended up being the clutch!

I get paranoid at every hiccup!

Paul, don't keep us in suspenders, what was the fault?

Dave ... don't you just love being in suspenders?

The fault - loose nuts (but that's the subject of another thread). There is a shaft that goes into the gearbox on one side and the selector lever was not clamped tightly to it. As is always the case, everything is a pain to get to as it's so tight up the side of the box, but job done so I now have use of a full set of cogs. I just had visions of a selector fork or something inisde the box having broken.

Yes.

I'm sure that whoever penned 'Murphy's Law' (probably someone called Murphy) owned an S/RS at some point in his life.

I always get the same feeling too. But that may be because of the ur quattro, as every problem turns into wallet surgery.
My RS4 has been the same of late, with the trickier EGT sensor to replace, and inlet temp sensor. Audi life is never easy!

lol chewy!!

when my ur quattro failed its mot last year, little did I know then that a YEAR later it is still off the road due to corrosion under neath... so in blind panic like an expectant dad pacing the hospital wards waiting for that first cry of a newborne I got myself well and truely wound up about losing the quattro to the chap upstairs in quattro "heaven"
FORTUNATELY it is now in drydock getting its underside sils re fabricated and the 1/4 panels re done.

So when things look like its going to be a skydive then realise your instructor is still in the plane, take a goood breath, it maybe your last!!

car ownership aint cheap!!
