Brake upgrade.

Post by nickelvery » Tue Jan 22, 2008 11:43 am

I am thinking about upgrading my front brakes in the next couple of months. I know there are so many differnent choices but I don't want to spend a fortune if I can avoid it.

I will be taking my car to have a MRC stage 1 remap and a pre cat gutting too at some point but want to sort everything else out first.

Alot of people seem to put the RS6 calipers on the fronts. I presume you would need to upgrade the discs too?

Is there alot of difference between the standard setup and the RS6 option?

Also with regards to fitting can I not do the upgrade myself or is a mech job?

Thanks in advance.

Nick

Nick

You've been in my car which has very similar brake set-up to the RS6 kit....We did some hard stops so you can form your own opinion compared with your standard set-up.

Just fitted the front B7 setup, calipers and discs with RS6 pads (slighly harder compound), absolutely amazed with the difference and has transformed the car.

The kit is pretty much bolt on and i fitted myself - i also removed the dust shield and used RS6 brake pipes.

If you are on a budget I think the Brembo/Porsche Cayenne 6 Piston calipers are still the best value for money. Alot of guys on the forum using these. They are still huge, look the part and arguably stop as well as the 8 pots. Plenty around as well on ebay and other places with the 6 pots being used on other Porsche models. I saw a nice used set the other day on ebay Germany go for 214 Euro (calipers only).

If you do a search on the forum they fit straight on as well and have a lot of pad options.

You can also buy new at:

Though probably cheaper items available out of Germany.

the beauty with those calipers is that they can be used with std discs, my cars got no problem at all stopping. :nogarors4:

With the Cayenne caliper the disc has to be modified as do the calipers

I had the B7 upgrade at MRC and have to say I am very very happy with it. I do normal town driving, may do an occasional track day and for the price and quality its a very worthwhile option
