RS4 clutch
RS4 clutch
Now, I'm reading the post called Clutch feels high and a little judder posted by Contigo and I'm feeling kind of similar...
Recently purchased my dream car - (obviously n RS4), with 70K on the clock. I have covered 2K miles since 15 December; when I test drove it and picked it up, clutch felt fine, but now, (simiarly to Contigo, I may just be paranoid, as I always am with any car and the clutch, due to it being a cost and the time you are without your car you could do without) it feels weak at times and high(ish) - judder, I'm not so sure about, perhaps VERY slightly VERY occasionally, but certainly feels weaker from when I picked it up, and I have NOT yet pushed it at all - perhaps once or twice to feel it's power
Based in the north-west and having difficult finding any local specialists, as I'd prefer not to take it to Audi to have it "checked", especially when it may only be my paranoia...!

RE: RS4 clutch
My clutch is very heavy and high but I thought the only of real way of telling was if the clutch slips when driving.
Kind Regards.

When I asked a similar question to Doug about my concerns around my clutch, as I thought it was on the 'way out', I was advised this.....
A clutch kit is only £240 but it takes approx 8 hours to remove the gearbox and change the clutch. The first signs of it wearing would be a wido open throttle in 6th from low revs and when the turbos kick in, if it grips it is fine.

IMO when the clutch is fine, it shouldn't be hard at all.
I drove a mates RS4 the other day, and his clutch was soo stiff, it was unbelievable, plus slipped like a b!tch!

I've just driven it home from work about an hour ago, and I'm not sure - like I said, it feels a bit weak and soft... plus, for the first time, I've just reversed it up my drive (short drive but which has a slight gradient) and when upon doing that, started to slightly judder as I was backing up it
I have a feeling it might be on its way out...
Thing is, I've only had it since 15 December and clutch was fine, however, 3 weeks & 2K miles later, it's feeling like this, so I might try to see what I can claim under warranty from the dealer (obviously aware that it's a wear & tear item, but I shouldn't have to put up with that if it is going...)

My clutch reached the end of its life at about 102k - as Doug suggested above, this I noticed in 5th and giving the car some beans and I felt a slip followed by a a slight burning smell.
The slight judder - could be due to a worn engine or gearbox mount I guess?

My clutch is heavy but after the first application or two of it on a drive I get used to it and never think about it when driving.IMO when the clutch is fine, it shouldn't be hard at all.
I drive all sorts of cars during the week and the weight of the RS4's clutch always seems very heavy when I drive it once a week but then the original road tests said the same.
Mine bites quite low so I need make sure I am always pressing the pedal down all the way. It's done 67k now so if it's on it's original clutch that would be a very good sign and it does not slip or judder at all.

Hi, I'm Contigo and my clutch was replaced not long after posting that. It had damaged the flywheel too and it cost me about 1500 notes all in for new clutch and flywheel.
The thing that finally killed it off was that I had the MRC remap treatment and that exposed the weakness even more!
Not cheap these cars to run but it's worth getting done before it damages the flywheel.
