I've been looking at oils.
Quantum synta seems a popular choice..
Any other suggestions?
What about the dreaded longlife?

Any gains? Even if changes were made every 5k miles?

Don't get something too thick.... An high quality fully synthetic 5w40 is fine, or 0W40 is perfect for that engine ( i use Mobil 1), can be use for everyday driving and track as well.
If you MAINLY go on track then go for something different like Castrol 10W60 , wish can cope better and longer at very high temp .

if you want to use mobil 1 0w-40, try costco as it is only £23 for 4 litres

I wouldnt use longlife nor Mobil 1 0w-40w as ive read its too thin and can cause premature cam wear on rs4s.Mine gets castrol edge 5w-40w but may try Quantum synta on its next in betweeny oil change as it seems good value

I'll be using synta gold on my first oil change. Makes sense, as it's used on the ur too.

Lengster1 - do you mean 5w40 or 5-30w ?? According to the Castrol official website 5-30w is the recommended rating for B5 and B7 models.

Am I mistaken in thinking that 0w40 is as thick as 5w40 when warm? And doesn't the 0w bit mean that it is only slightly too thick when cold unlike a 5w or 10w which are significantly thicker when cold?

Yep,
0w-40, 5w-40 10w-40 and 15w-40 are all the same viscosity when hot (100degc), the only difference is the 0w is more fluid at cold temps then a 5w, then a 10w and 15w, wich are all many times thicker then when the oil is hot... so to say 0w-40 is too thin is incorrect.
Cheers
Guy.

I use Castrol TWS 10W-60 - I think it's very nice especially for turbo engines going in pretty hot climate conditions.
Cheers.

Probably toot think for everyday use.
A fully synthetic 5W40 is sufficient enough.
