remap problems

hi everyone,

first of all i apologize if this post will get chaotic, it's pretty long story & will try to put it in best possible way. i am fairly new owner of b5 rs4 - approximately 4 months now. i live in warsaw, poland.

i decided to do a remap some time ago - measured outcome was 380 hp & 550 nM after remap (tuner stated that all rs4's b5 are underpowered - between 330 & 360hp as standard). i could definitely feel extra torque with new program, but at the same time fuel consumption grew drastically - while driving extremely slowly (and i really mean very, very slowly) in urban mode i couldn't get below 18 l/100 km.

i understand that while having more fun fuel consumption should go up comparing with standard, but not in decent, everyday mode, right?

so,… i was driving for approximately a month with this program (maybe longer  ), & finally decided to go back to original. of course it’s not that easy... after remapping to factory settings fuel consumption didn't go down - but i can definitely tell there's a difference in performance - for worse of course.

& now questions:
1. does anyone know if is it possible to remap computer to have less power & torque, but at the same time leave part of a different program for fuel pump?

2. i really badly want to go back to remap, but have normal fuel consumption in the city at the same time,… by any chance, do you know any company in my area that knows what they are doing?

3. did you ever heard about company called tecnicar? - www.tecnicar.com (they didn't do my car, but i just recently found them & they have a vendor, here in Warsaw)

thanks for all your help!

bests,
matthew

First of all WELCOME!

I have only been to Gdansk and not Warsaw or Krakow so excuse me!

I recently went from a B7 to a B5 RS4 and have had a few issues. I honestly think that all cars from factory have had a few issues that have needed ironing out at some point in the vehicles life.

The mistake that you made is going to somebody who has very little reperience when it comes to remapping RS4's! and you are now feeling the effects.

How much do you like the car? I ask that because I honestly think it's worth driving it to the UK to visit one of our experienced specialists.

I know it's a long way but you will come over and when your car leaves here it will be A1.

I had an issue with mine and boost leaks and visited doug at mrc tuning and he located the problem to the two diverter valves and a few loose fitting tubes and jubilee clips. After it was running normal he remapped the car with the custom Stage 2 remap (420bhp) and it now runs like a dream.

Get it over here, you know it makes sense!

Very unusual to have a B5 producing that little power unless there are other faults such as air flow, sensor failures or vacuum leaks. My car standard with miltek was producing 402 bhp. The other factor here is consumption, most mapped cars will actually do better after re-map at low speed, my car gained about 2 mpg on cruising at 60 mph due to better/more efficient map.
As already advised, get the car to somebody who knows the car and get this put right before you cause damage or failure

You have a problem with your car and any decent tuner would not remap it before finding out what the problem was. Do you have access to VAG-COM? Have you changed the MAF? What was the name of the original tuning company?

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear of your woes. Me and my partner often talk about doing a road trip to go throuigh germany and into Poland....with the RS4 of course.

Sounds like your tuners have very little experience with these cars - I don't know of anyone whose car came out of the factory at less than the stated bhp (it would contravene Trading Standards and the like!!). Could it be that your tuner is using the wrong conversion factor to calculate transmission losses??

As suggested above, if you have the time, why not come to one of the specialists over here? They will give the car a good health check for you and carry out a preoepr re-map.

Doing a quick calculation, my car averages about 13litres/100km with "spirited" driving and therefore would be better if driving "granny" style.
