RS 4 at full chat....?

If for argument's sake one was able to experience an unmodified (but very clean), 01 reg, 51,000 miler RS4 at full chat on a nice straight, unimpeded road, on a virtually windless day, should one be dissapointed with less than enthusiastic progress from 130 - 140, and then not getting any further than 140mph?
Was under the impression that the limiter cut in at 155mph?
Any thoughts?

In a word, YES! Unless it was it stuck in 4th gear?
Try changing the MAF (verify this using vag-com)!

Should pull the limiter without any trouble at all, which in the case of my car is indicated 170 on the speedo..

I'd definately be disappointed, because my slightly modified (not very clean) 00 reg, 88,000 miler, 1.8T A4 (180bhp ish) would be sat on your tail, if not slowly creeping past you!
I sense great joy to be had if you (for argument's sake) fix the problem and discover what an RS4 really can do...

With no mods and no change to the limiter you should pull around 165mph (GPS measured). I know, I have done it (not in the UK)

140 limit in an RS4? No. As Nige says, check your MAF and check for any errors. I've had many ECU errors over the years, but none have caused the check engine light. Also check your hoses/diverter valves for leaks leading to loss of boost.
