millteck exaust and insurance issues ?
millteck exaust and insurance issues ?
going for a millteck system v soon but was wondering if i should inform my insurers ? are non stock exausts going to up my premium ? or is it just not worth telling em ? any help would be appresiated !
RE: millteck exaust and insurance issues ?
To be correct you should inform them, but if you go for cat back system, power increase is small and you can put it too them that standard exhaust is £1500 more than Miltek........
RE: millteck exaust and insurance issues ?
Any modifications must be notified to your insurer...otherwise you are uninsured and they can refuse to make a payout. So if you have a prang, not only do you have to foot the bill for your damage and third party damage but the old bill will probably do you for driving without insurance and give you a fine and some points too!

Do you know if they charge must more than your current premium?
How much more do they charge you if youre going to go to stage 3 from stock? Ususally. Is it double or more like a few hundred on top?

RE: millteck exaust and insurance issues ?
It all depends on your insurer.
My previous insurer (Elephant) didn't charge a higher premium for a remap and uprated brakes. They wanted more for the suspension mods though, but this may have been one mod too many for them.
You've got to tell them, so ask them - and if they want to jack up the premium just reason with them and if they still insist then get quotes form another insurer. If you are planning further mods to the car, it may be worthwhile moving sooner rather than later.
It is worth reasoning with insurers, I did with elephant when they wanted to jack the premium becuase my g/f was made redundant ... it is an automatic computer thing. After about 5 minutes they agreed that the premium should stay as it was. Sometimes it's just a means of extracting more of your hard earned out of your pocket.

Remap and new brakes cost me 80 squid on my premium Direct Line. I'm on the hunt for a milltek as well. They suggested not a huge increase but I'm old !! might be worth shopping around the insurance companies as will differ massivley. There some good threads on this in the other forums as well which helped me a lot.
Always best to tell them and get it done even if costs a few quid sods law if you dont and total it or have a smack, god forbid, an owner nightmare will unfold!!
Good luck

Yes I do and yes but they ask you what you had done but its all about how much the power has been increased by in % terms. i.e 20% I would imagine the premium increases depending on how much you have done as I said 80 quid on mine which included notifying them of the new brake set up. Bare in mind sometimes it will go to an underwriter i'm sure you can negotiate if you have multiple policies and of course I'd get an OK from the Insurance coy before you go and get it done. Bare in mind the individual on the other end of the line will probably not have an IGLO what a remap etc etc is and will be reading instructions from a computer.saf wrote:MEV do you have 420 brake?
Did you have to tell them that. Or did you tell them you upgraded all mechanical bits for the 420 remap?
Cheers

Thanks mate
So by going up to 420 ish youre upping power by about 40%
That will reflect on the increse in premium that you pay.
I would have thought bigger brakes give you a discount as you can stop quicker. But I guess that also means someone hitting you in the back quicker as well.
I didnt really think brakes would make any difference. I suppose bigger wheels will ake quite a difference as well.
What are you running on your 420 setup MEV?
Derdle, who did you find to replace Elephant. Im with them now, and thinking of moving accross to another.
Thanks

Hi Saf,
I was with Elephant for about 6 years and I can't knock em at all - I changed to Greenlight (site sponsors) who gave a very similar quote to Elephant but they cover the modded parts like for like (Elephant will only replace with OEM) and Greenlight offer good premiums for Track Day cover - whereas last year I was buying cover from MORIS which wasn't cheap.
Give Greenlight a call - fill their online form in.

I think ill give them a call. Ive been with Elephant too for about 5 years.
Im kinda scared that another insurance companies service wont be as reliable. Ive heard of other companies that supposed to be good on price but I wonder what its like when it comes to the crunch if youve had a knock or something.
Ill fill out their online form now and let you know how Ive got on.
thanks

boxterdogted - Sorry i miscallculated. Ive got an S4 so im thinking stock is 265. Roughly around 40%. For RS4 its only 10%.
Ive filled int he form. Now for the wait.
My insurance is about to come to an end mid May.
So elephant will send me their probably higher than last year quote . Last year I told them that I was offered cheaper by another company and they brought it down by a £100. Ill try and do the same again but need to ask the m about those mods first.
Have greenlight been around for a long time?

Greenlight is a broker, I think the policy is written with "Highway Insurance". TBH my premiums with Eleephant didn't go up much over the years!
