Road tax, C02 and the RS4...

I don't suppose many people care about a few quid on road tax when our cars do 20mpg(ish) but I can't help thinking that there is a divide amongst B5 RS4s in that the earlier cars on an X plate registered pre March 2001 will always pay the basic PLG road tax for cars over 1549cc of £180 (just gone up from £175) while the later cars (Y reg onwards) are subject to the CO2 based Petrol Car rate which for cars over 185 g/km is now £205.00

I doubt this will have any effect on values unless the government ramp up that CO2 based rate (unlikely as they wont be stopping any more going on the road if they do this, just devaluing cars already on road) but can anyone tell me what the C02 emmissions for an RS4 are and what was the previous price of a tax disc before yesterday's increase?

Cheers

cheers boxterdogted - so it was £190 and now £205
288 g/km puts it well into the infamous band G of gas guzzlers which is 225 g/km >
Presumably a new RS4 would be in this band and would cost £300 to tax.

As somebody said elsewhere lets enjoy these cars while we can

Worth noting re. the congestion charge - Pre 2001 cars less than 3000cc are not in band G, no matter how much Co2 they pump out.

So RS4's will probably be the most high performing cars in Central London, that won't have to pay the £25/day charge.

Pleasing..

I paid £180 for a year last month (Jan 08 ) due to being on an X reg.
Boring bit of trivia - up to X reg is 'Private Light Goods' (PLG) which means no emissions based road tax. Y reg onwards is 'Petrol Car' with emissions bandings.

It is nice to pay less but in the great scheme of things even £300 isn't that much more, just £10 per month.

Mine came through today, £180. Mine is a 2000 X-reg. Just seems odd how one model can have 3 levels of tax.

ITS THE PRINCIPAL OF THE MATTER...we pay roadtax to help PAY for the upkeep of the road network NOT to spend it on anything and everything else and THEN tax 80% on fuel.

IF the money was purely invested in the transport methods in the Uk....we would have TGV style trains, French quality roads and cheaper travel. Now the government has it in thier thick heads oh lets tax more in the umbrella coverage of environmental issues resulting in les trafic on the roads because we have taxed the motorist off the road... ok but its not as if the rail network is any good either is it?

rip off Britain thats all it is now.

Call me cynical but this is nothing to do with the Envirnment -it's all about raising taxation.

Isn't it strange how the Congestion Charge is moving towards Emissions...so nothing to do with congestion at all. Red Ken makes my blood boil.

All the B5 RS4's fall into band F for road tax - currently £205. Band G (over 225g/km) is only for cars registered after 23/03/2006.
