Old-timer B5 member here from Japan who hasn't posted in years. I have 450bhp B5 and love it. I've had it down plenty of highways with my F430 and there's little in it anywhere where it's not too twisty. However I do like the Mugello B7 sedan. Problem is I've been looking around the web and RS246 for any comments about how much better the B7 is than the B5...and I can't find any! In fact I find plenty of articles about how the B5 is a faster, better car.
Is this general consensus- the B7 is a (relative) disappointment? I've been asking around tuners here in Japan if anyone will supercharge the B7 for me so I can improve performance from standard (and I think further justify the trade from B5), but most seem hesitant to want to try tuning the B7 engine due to it's already high compression.
Any comments welcome, or any advice on where to look for further information that may help me.
To B7 or not?
RE: To B7 or not?
Is there an MTM dealer in Japan, as they are the only company that I know of that offer a supercharger kit today?

There was an aticle in Audi Driver about the MTM supercharger conversion for the B7 - about £13,000 IRRC.

RE: To B7 or not?
I've just placed an order for a new B7 RS4 from my stock power B5 RS4. I'm not 100% sure I'll be happy with the lack of torque but overall there are so many other features I know I will be happy with.
However, I'm pretty sure that if I had chipped my B5 and fitted the new B7 seats and more sporting exhaust note I would REALLY have struggled to live with the lack in torque in the new B7.
So the MTM supercharger would have to be factored into the price for a swap to the B7!

Is that MTM tune job for real, or is it only prototype at this stage? My sense from reading about that conversion on a B7 thread was that it wasn't being offered to clients yet.
MTM do have a Japanese importer, I'll check with them tomorrow. If it can be done I will go for that, but I'm not holding my breath.
If anyone knows if this conversion is being done please let me know.
Thanks for your input guys. Appreciate the comments.

It was in the latest issue of udi Driver Magazine. This is from the http://www.qstuning.co.uk website:
QST are able to offer the MTM Supercharger kit for the current S4 V8, as featured in Audi Driver Magazine, giving a power enhancement of up to 500bhp.
MTM are undergoing extensive development and testing to enable this kit to work on the new Audi RS4 V8 with an expected 550bhp.
This will include all 4.2 FSI engines for example the Q7 & latest generation S4, with power increases from 450 500bhp.

Hi Michael,
What a coincidence! I haven't been on the site for a year or two myself and was just browsing ( I am loking for a ISOFIX Child seat booster) when I found your posting. I am in the same position as you are. I did take the new RS4 ,The S6 and The S8 out and found the S6 a dog, The S8 a nice car and the RS4 slower than my current one. The B7 is the best stock car audi has made. The active suspension takes care of the poor handling of the old one and the ride is much more refined than mine with the Quattro GMBH upgrade. However the power is lacking (4.7 v 3.7 s 0-100) A frine of mine just changed over and found that the B7 has the sat nav, lack of oversteer and parking sensors that his did not have. However mine has all of it. I am going to wait tiill the new RS6 is released and see.
However I did some thinking. The B7 gets 5 % with a chip. If a light weight flywheel could be fitted to it than it would be similar to a chippedB5. but not better. Is it worth the money? Probably not. However there are plenty others who did change over.
ps how are your magnesium wheels? I did not get them as they were a bit pricey.
