hi everyone,

i am concidering ordering a custom made bonnet & rear doors for my rs4.
what do you think about such an idea? i was quoted 600 Eur for each one,..

apparently this could save circa 60% of weight, do you think it's worth it? or maybe i should just forget about it?

bests,
matthew

I think you need to figure out if you want them for the look or the weight saving..... in isolation the weight saving will make no difference and no its probably not worth it, if you need carbon for the weight then you should have already stripped out your interior and stereo and non essential systems of the car!

If you like the looks then only you can put a value on that......

IMO for general road use I wouldn't think the weight saving would be worth it. If for serious racing then it has to be considered, but as the others have said already .. you can lose more weight cheaper elsewhere first.

Dont forget you can remove them when selling the car and sell seperately (limited market though). Also, dont forget the insurance implications.....

no, you just buy a race car!!

rear doors are not really worth it tbh, if anything you want to be losing the weight over the front end not the back.

RS6 brakes...again depends on what you use the car for. Some members leave theirs as standard even though they use the car on track, whereas others change them (like I have). From my experience I prefer the uprated brakes. I'm sure bakerdcb uses the stock RS4 B5 brakes and he often tracks his car with no problems.

The RS6 brakes are bigger and heavier than the stock RS4 B5 brakes so you'll be adding weight to the car, not reducing it.

Just to put some flesh on the bones. My new 6+ discs hit the door mat yesterday, and boy did they leave a dent. I was so surprised at the weight, I chucked them on the scales. 4 stone 6 pounds. Admittedly that did include front and rear pads, but not the Brembo 8 pots, which are also significantly heavier than the standard items.
