Is it worth me getting VAGCOM and plugging in when i go to inspect a potential purchace just to find any error codes that may be lurking??

Thanks

Check for fault codes.

Log MAF and for boost leaks. Someone else can confirm what numbers you should see on an RS4.

Its defintely worth VAGCOM-ing a car before you buy. But It'll cost you at least £150 assuming you have a lap top?

Also I can't imagine someone is going to be too accomadating to let you learn VAGCOM on their car then to go Logging.

However, they should have no objection to you checking for error codes as that takes litterally less than 2minutes.

If you do get one. See if a pal will let you try it out on their car so you can get some practice first. Any VAG car will do, i.e. SEAT, Skoda etc. Your biggest problem with other cars might be finding the diagnostic port. But Ross Tech normally have this covered on their website.
