How Narrow can a garage be to fit an RS4 in

Post by bigstevex » Thu Nov 30, 2006 3:41 pm

I'm having a garage added to the house anyway, length isn't an issue, but width i would like to keep a path at the side for easier access, but it means the garage might be too narrow. The car is driven only at week-ends so its not a manouver that will be done every day!

So can you guys who park in tight garages give me your widths please. And if it involves climbing out the sunroof to get out i'll give it a miss

Thanks in advance guys!

P.S No smart ass people with double garages please

I have about 15cm gap on the nearside and 30cm on the offside....plus foam on the walls where the doors open. Dunno how wide the garage is until I get home though. Also depends on your own size..if you're a fat ba***rd then you'll need more room, if your skinny as a size zero model then you'd get by with millimetres either side!

These are the gaps once inside the garage, the door frame sits inside of the walls, so the opening is quite narrow.

Hope that helps, and I'll try to rememebr to measure up tonight for you.

Your car dimensions should be; length 4525mm, width 1799mm and height 1366mm (got this from the sticky thread about the RS4).

I'd say you want atleast 1000mm each side to open doors/get passed. Therefore garage width = 3799mm, call it 4 metres.

Dave

PS The more I think about those dimensions, the less it makes sense.

Don't be so sure, S3 is a very wide car and wider than a standard A4 because of the way the engine is mounted so could easily be wider than the RS4.

thanks derdle

I'm not exactly skinny at a 36/38 waist but i can squeeze through things lol.

So its 2500mm i need... about... 8ft 4'

hmmm could be tight to get a path in aswell... but i think i'd rather have security these days to be honest! I'll see what the builder dudes say :)

With the padding on the wall there is enough room to squeeze in and out (36" waist). This garage is shorter and narrower than my old one. In fact .... I've got foam padding on the walls and on the garage door. I think it's called a snug fit. Deffo no room for an RS6, so that saves me the hassles of wanting one of those!

If I remember I'll photograph it tomorrow morning for you. OOhh that'll be exciting,....a picture of a car in a garage!

No new house if it can't fit my RS4

Post by ultraplur » Sun Dec 03, 2006 7:51 am

Funny I came across this post today...

It turns out we are looking at a new house to move to. The house is preety neat at 650 sq. mt., 4 rooms, with a nice big garden, heating and all the nice ammenities, however, for some reason (beyond my comprehension), the previous owner (probably not a car nut as me) built two garages on each side, which are only 2.4 mts. wide (or probably a bike nut or Austin Mini collector).

Since the house is on a gated road, my wife insists that she will leave her SUV outside no problem everyday, but there is no way in hell I will leave my RS4 on the street...

Visited with the architect today to try to solve the problem, and I was clear to my wife, if the garage can't accomodate my RS4 comfortably, then this house is not for us! Too bad for the garden and nice forest views...

Am I crazy or do you share my feelings???

Cheers!
