Lost 50hp, where to look?
Lost 50hp, where to look?
Hi,
I went to a rolling road last week, the idea was to put an Sportec chip in it.
But when the car was tested originaly it only made 330 HP. So that means I have lost 50 horses and do not know where to look for them. Can somebody please help me here. The MAF is brand new, the car actually made only 300 hp before the MAF was changed.

Unusual....... most cars give more than the standard 380 if they have a few miles under their belts.... Heat soak, fuel and traction would account for some of the loss but not that much. Obviously when diagnosing the MAf fault, they looked at Vag Com to establish there are no other faults, such as Lamder or dv's dumping boost?????? That would be were I started looking.......... and as the wise one says(she who must be obeyed).... keep stable door locked so horses cant get out

Simple good advice, get car on vag com.
Hope you get it sorted. Is it hissing on boost?
What are the error codes?

Maybe you have another faulty MAF or a boost leak?

I would agree with Nige - I had a new MAF fitted in April, and before I had my car chipped it "only" produced 368 bhp on the rollers, then shortly after (2 weeks ago) the new MAF died altogether, only 4 months old!

Several years ago a friend of mine took his S2 to AMD for reprogramming. They diagnosed a faulty boost solenoid before even starting reprogramming, which was causing a similar power deficit. The car had always been dealer serviced and the fault had remained unnoticed, meaning he had driven an underperforming car for thousands of miles without knowing (he reckons the fault must have been present when he bought it).
I have considered an annual rolling road session at such a place for peace of mind. These specialists seem to really know what they're doing, which sadly can't be said for some main dealers.

Main dealers are fine for standard service, wash and hoover and free evening paper.......... if you want your car fixed, it needs to go to a specialist, who in most cases, will have come across similar faults prior to you turning up. Many years ago, a guy took an S2 into my local dealer in Belfast, car was under performing, and after spending two weeks working on it, they could not solve the fault......... was a well known fault that the boost/vacuum hose from manifold to ecu blocked with burnt oil deposits, once pointed out to dealership by Audi specialist, they had the car flying half an hour later.
I also get a hiss when changing gear. Always thought it was normal (it has done it for the 18 months I have owned it). I read somewhere that it is compressed air forcing through the turbine blades. I don't think any horses have escaped, but then it is almost twice the power of my last car so how would I know?!
