Sportec Cams for real or a scam ?

about two years ago I was charged about 1800 US for Sportec intake and Exhaust cams, I had a shop in the US build the engine, put in 2.8 heads on my 2.7t S4 motor and I asked for RS4 intake cams to be installed. When I went to pick up the car, they handed me a bill for $1,800 for the cams and I about had a heart attack. Don;t get me wrong, the car made great power so I never really doubted them. It wasn;t until recently I learned they did this to someone else as well. Supposedly he bought a set of sportec intake cams and before he installed them had them profiled and they turned out to be nothing more than RS4 cams but triple the price. Now, Sportec doesn't even talk about these on their web site, nor have I have ever seen any onfo on them

Sportec says when they tune RS4's in Europe, they remove the rs4 intake and exhaust cams and install their own intake and exhaust cams. they also say they have about 15 sets of these cams running around Europe but I Have yet to find anyone who has them.

So if you or anyone else you know supposedly have these SPORTEC cams I would love to hear from you. Thanks.

So did they replace your cams ? That's the question I was asking. did they replace intake and exhaust cams.

thanks

Unless you have changed your second RS4 Red Rocket - No it wasn't.... It was a 460, which Sportec do not touch the engine internals on. The rest of the work was done by AmD. The seats are actually Recaro Pole Positions too, not Porsche GT3 seats.....?

Hmm, so how does your RS4 perform today compared to before the engine re-build ? I would imagine that with all the work done you noticed some changes in power delivery, HP and Tq curves.

Also, what did you do with all your old parts ? Leave them there ?

I was hoping to hook up and talk with someone who knows anything about these Sportec cams. Do you know what you were charged for them or IF you were charged for them ? I would imagine in an engine rebuild they would list them seperately. ?

I haven;t found anyone who sells cams for the RS4. with all the major players out there, it's surprising. I don't think Dahlback, that grazy German even has any cams for the RS4 ? Or am I wrong ?

Can't say I've ever read anything about aftermarket cams for the RS4.

The only chat I've read on the subject of RS4 cams has been about (I think) Sportec claiming we should use a certain spec of oil and not the standard stuff due to some cars (somewhere - not the UK) sufferring premature cam wear.

Try a search on here.

I did, found nothing realy. Found one person asking about 264 degree cams but he got no response.

That's why i find it hard to believe that Sportec cams are real, they charged me a pretty penny for them but the shop that put them in said they never profiled them so they can't be sure. I do know they have the RS4 stamping on them, all that tells me is they are either just RS4 cams or reground RS4 cams. You would think if they REALLY had 15 sets running around europe someone would have to know something about them.

Went down that route already, no luck. Besides, I think the cams that Dahlback installs in that 570 kits are race cams, the cams I have are not lumpy and idle fine, another reason why I think these are simply RS4 cams. I hope to know more soon once the custom tuning starts end of this week.

Interesting thread. Like you say, you would have expected someone to confirm their existance by now.

What is the current spec of your car ?

Good luck with it.

So did you speak directly with Dahlback? Can you confirm these are race cams? Are they (Dahlback) not selling modified street cars in this instance not race cars, if i were to pay 44k euros +vat and were to end up with a lumpy idle i would not be too happy!

Good luck

Ya really, I think it's called vaporware...

Current spec is Hybrid turbo's/RS6 compressor wheel, B5S4 engine, 2.8 heads/rs4 intake mani/rs4 throttle body about the complete rs4 intake and fuel system, RS4 cams ( Sportec  ). other bits include 100 cell race cats, Milltek Dual, Alcon brakes, Stasis tracksport dampers, 700/800 lb springs, Hotchkis swaybar front and rear, HRE's etc etc etc...

Hutch, no, sent e-mails last year, no response. Called TJM here in the states, talked with their head tech guy Tim something and he wasn't too keen on providing me much detail on their cams or anything else for that matter. Once they learned I put 2.8 heads on my car they said they didn;t want to work on it. Something about the water cooling passages on the 2.8 heads being smaller than RS4 heads and that my heads would heat up too much and warp etc etc... So I wrote them off. Funny, been running 1.55 bar boost for 2 years and no issues at all. I'll give him credit, he knows more than I will ever forget but on this front I chalk it up to being narrow minded.... just my .02 worth
