retrain means if you put the key in the drivers door and hold it open the car resends the info to the key. thus it works but mine seems to have alzheimers

I dropped mine in a bucket of water without any memory loss! Very carefully dried it out and still all seems well. Couldn't believe my luck. But I will remember the tip in case I have problems. Is that a process you need to go through when changing batteries in the remote?
...Paul.

No you have to take all keys including the skeleton to the dealer so they can reprogramme the lot on a computer thingy?
Wait a minute - is that Vag Com by any chance?

I thought the procedure for retraining a key was as described above - this should include changing batteries?

Am led to believe that if you change the battery on one then the others cant communicate with it/the car therefore have to all be reprogrammed. No mention of the door retraining thing from the dealer.
Or id thid just another money making exercise from them???

keys programming is quite complicated and has to be done by the dealer, it involves a process which needs the dealer to contact Germany with chassis number to obtain access codes........ long drawn out and and expensive...............

that's if you're adding a new key with a different transponder for the immobiliser. to reprogram just the remote part you can follow the procedure of putting the key in the door, unlocking it manually then holding down the unlock button

I changed the batteries in both my keys (one key at a time) and all was well.
As for the original problem, perhaps VagCom would show a fault on the car somewhere?

it's a complicated procedure
1. insert key into door and turn to unlock
2. press unlock button on remote
3. undo clients trousers
4. administer severe rodgering in a manner which is illigal in 49 states
5. extract £20 from clients wallet
6. kiss the client (most people like to get kissed when they get f**ked)
