should the fuel pump on my RS4 be so audible ???

It's not making any odd noises, it's just very audible when you are outside the car and also in the car when you turn off the radio.

Haven't heard another RS running, so I don't know if this is normal or not.

any thoughts ????

cheers,

Mine is quite loud too. Wouldn't worry too much about it.

Some are louder than others, even more so when they are sucking the tank dry :D

Her 1.8T has spent the summer months with a very noisy wining pump, but it is now quiet again. I'm sure it is coincidence but it seem to start getting quieter about the same time I switched over to Tesco's 99 octane. :?
Ben-- How is fatherhood? !!!!

Noisy pumps are usually a sign of impending failure, although they carry on pumping for a quite a while after they become noisy. Noise usually = loss of fuel pressure, certainly in the older Audis so be careful and get it checked out. Dont want to run it lean and cook something else.

Fatherhood knackering Chris :D

Not sure whether it being noisey means it will fail, I remember hearing JohnRS4's pump really audibly, but mine was much more quiet. I doubt the ECU would let the car be starved of fuel, they have pressure regulators and alike.

All the best

Johnrs4 was running twin pumps, and the second was installed without rubber mountings........ the ECU cant regulate the pressure from the pump, if the delivery pressures is wrong, rest assured it will cause problems, been there, done it and got the invoices to prove it.

I had mine replaced last summer (stuck in the midle of nowhere waiting 1 week for a new one) and the new pump makes more noise than the old one....
