Guys can you give me the pro's and con's of each model.

Do I buy the best RS4 I can, or hold on for a bit and get an RS6.

Important things to me are in order:

Performance
Residual Value
Reliability
Comfort

Any comments greatly appreciated

Sorry just seen the other thread in the RS6 section, but would still really appreciate some honest answers.

go for the 4, its got proper gears which i think makes it more of a drivers car.

well I assueme that affects the residuals too? The RS4 has held it money pretty well for its age, will the RS6 do the same of drop because of higher supply numbers?

I have not tried either so can't say on the gears. The RS6 appeals as sometime I have lazy days and would be nice sitting in traffic.

Having driven driven both, I would say they are completely different cars, and you need to decide what it is you want from the car. 4's will hold their value, 6's are now available for not much more......... but I have much more fun driving the 4, the 6 is a big beast..... fast as hell and does what it should, but unless you have three kids and two dogs, stick with a 4.............. I ended up with an E55 estate, was just that bit more accomplished than the 6, but not as quick... and yes I have three kids and three dogs

4 or 6 ...

The 2 cars seem very different to me. havent driven the RS6 yet, but not all that keen on it when compared to the RS4;-

1 Much bigger (cant imagine its as good through twisty roads ?)
2 Not as much style
3 Not as unique - unlimited supply ? (although at 60K I guess a bit limited !)
4 Main reason - no manual box. Why or why do people make performance cars and not provide a manual option ? - beats me !
5 And also the small fact that a new RS6 will cost twice as much as a good RS4 !!
6 Residuals dont seem to be good.

Get an RS4 you know it makes sense - mind you I might be a bit biased !

Aside from a superb cosworth tweaked engine in the RS4, you can't go past the RS4 styling and bulging muscle guards.

As far as styling goes with the RS6 you may as well have a rebadged S6.

Of course if space is what you need and a nice twin turbo V8 then the RS6 has it.

RS6 also had a more modern anti-roll suspension system but the RS4 can be easily sorted. :P

For me it became an issue of road tax, insurance (Ireland is astronomical on both accounts) and tiptonic vs. 6 speed. Ultimately, I chose the 6 speed. No regrets whatsoever.

Many thanks guys. I think the RS4 will make more sense. I only do about 3k a year as will be a second car. I just wanted something I can have "brain out" fun in as well as take the Mrs and kids out in too. Sounds like the RS4 may hold its value better pro rata over a few year period.
