The CSL is not just a slightly better M3...it's a much different car (although the cups do make a big difference)...probably about 10-15 seconds or so on the 'Ring from what I've read...

How can you possibly compare a stripped-out lightweight 2 door saloon that doesn't even have a radio and designed for 'racing' with a 1 and three quarter ton family estate car that most definately is not?

I don't get it....
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

I was going to buy CSL for this summer but decided that it is not suitable for every day car. The difference in weight is 110 kg not very much IMHO, i agree that this is two different cars but was surprised buy the time difference, the biggest surprise is that RS4 is slower than standard M3.

Hehe....yep...optionally! - It's almost like they designed it to be potentially driven hard by the husband, and then the wife can put it in full auto mode, sport mode off and tootle to the shops...

M3 is 1,570 kg M3 CSL is 1,460 kg, -110 kg. Difference in time 32 sec.
RS4 weights 1620 kg and has stock 380 hp and 440 Hm, IMHO 8:25 is to slow.

I think you're confused what the RS4 is all about...it's a perfect all rounder, the fact that it can get round the Nordschleife in 8.25 is pretty amazing when you consider it's also perfectly capable of carrying 4 people and luggage on a trip around Europe.

...If you want it to go better around a track, a few simple mods sort most of that ;-) - I'd think close to 8 minutes was possible with stage1/suspension/brakes.

This is also taking different driver abilities into account. The only true way is for the same dirver to go out in the same weather conditions with a similiar fuel load ie. full tank.
